How do I increase payload capacity of my 2008 TRD Sport extended cab?

    Just as the title states, I'm looking to increase my payload capacity on my 2008 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Extended cab 4x4. Based off what I've read, the factory says the max payload is somewhere around 1300lb, to include passengers, fuel, etc. Im looking into buying a truck bed camper to slide into my bed. The 6-6.5' campers I'm looking at weigh around 1000lb. I don't doubt that the truck can handle the weight, but I need some more assurance since its my daily driver and I don't to destroy my truck.

    With all that being said, Ive researched a bunch of different things and have some questions. I read that these "add a leaf" packages can add around 200lbs to the payload capacity. However I also read through the forums that they don't actually add as much as they say they do. Theres also the air bag systems and the SES that seem like better options. I hate doing things half hearted so I'm more likely to add bags and get it done right the first time. At this point, (if I go through with it and get the truck bed camper) my plan is to add some bags or an SES... if I can get some more info.

    Does anyone have either of these two systems that has anything to say about it? Specifically how you saw a difference, brand/type, installation advice, etc. Additionally, will I need any handling upgrades to include sway bars, upgraded shocks?

    Any and all information will be useful, especially from those who have truck bed campers.

    It's the main leaf which carries the bulk of the load, and then the add a leaf (AAL) can pick up an over load, commonly called an overload leaf.

    Are you lifted?
    If not, do you want a small lift?
    My suggestion is get upgraded rear leafs, with slightly stiffer front springs. Specific brands don't really matter, but I suggest to go with a quality brand, and not the cheapest option.

    And bags ..... not unless you're planning on a stiffer ride most of the time without the flex of leafs.

    I am not lifted now but I'm not against a small lift. Does the add a leaf give me a small lift or is that something additional?

    It will lift the rear by the thickness of the added leaf (approximately).

    But the add a leaf only works once the main leaf and second leaf are loaded. You will maintain almost stock ride by only doing an AAL.

    Black TRD Fj Cruiser wheels, TRD catback exhaust.
    Sumo springs. Basically an extended bump stop. They say they can handle 1000 lbs. I've got them and love them. Haven't added any true weight to the bed yet.

    is the braking system up to par?
    struts
    maybe on the swaybar
    the camper is a dry 1000lbs?

    well its been a long time since Ive logged in... But I haven't added anything to the braking system. that was my next question for towing as well. If I'm towing stuff does anyone have any info on upgraded brake system or added trailer brake system?
