Did you expect high torque low rpm in the Taco ?
    How about in a tundra V8 ?
Of course its high rpm in the taco, look at the torque curve in a 6 vs an 8 !!!

Your the moron if you think a high revving motor makes a great towing
You missed the point moron....anybody that tows frequently will most likely say a high revving motor is not a good platform for towing

Should be a chipshot for me towing the tractor. Not nearly as high in elevation nor as heavy a load. We'll see..

Just try this...it's worth trying. I know quite a few vehicle drivers that dont hot rod but still dont get better mpg's. If this doesnt work for you, then you've ruled something out:

Pretend like there is a raw egg between your foot and the accelerator, and you are trying to kee the raw egg pressed against the accelerator without breaking it. Watch your current mpg meter. Dont drive a long time in the slow low gears. You do better to quickly accelerate (not like a hot rod) out of those gears and get into your overdrive/gas mileage gears. When you get to speed, slightly back off the accelerator. You can back off of the accelerator, still maintain speed, but increase your mpg's. These accelerators are sensitive. Keep your momentum up in the truck while driving feathering the accelerator - backing off and then pressing lightly when going downhill to gain speed, or best let it coast with foot off the accelerator). When coming to stop signs, turns, traffic signals, let off the accelerator completely. Coast as long as you can without causing traffic problems (too many people dont do this and their mpg's really take a hit at this point). Your truck will engine brake and slow down, keep your foot off the accelerator. There is a place by my house where I coast for a 1/4th of a mile starting when Im going uphill, then coast down all the while gradually slowing down so I can make a turn into my driveway. Ever notice how slow your speed is when actually turning? That is a lot of time to gain mpg's. All of this is based on observations of people I know that claim to be easy paw-paw drivers, yet dont get in the upper range of available mpg's. Just some ideas to maybe help.

Im not trying to scold you or give you a driving lesson, or be condescending, etc. Im trying to help ya eliminate something so "you'll" know if it is a mechanical malfunction with your truck or just some simple adjustments that alleviate your issue.

Best of luck. Lots of friendly helpful people here, so let us know results so maybe people can point you in another direction, if that isnt it.

Might be the case if this one can't do what I need it to do.

Or maybe I just won't give my son my current mountain trail and hunting rig-

Tried driving like that, the improvement in fuel economy was minuscule and certainly not worth the agony of driving like Miss Daisy.

Hhahahaha!! You've had a lot of issues with your truck, not just stuff in your head. You've had/still had rear end issues, too. Id bet yours is something mechanical causing the low mpg's. Region and terrain play into mpg's, too, but I doubt you and others always drive uphill. Both ways. lol. I hope you get your truck issues sorted out. You've been helpful to many of us, although you yourself have had some unfortunate issues.

If you bought this truck to regularly tow 4000 lbs up a grade without winding the engine some then you made a poor choice. It's basic engine physics.
