I'm packing up the truck and the family here in a couple weeks and we're headed to a friend's wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We've got an extra week up in that area give or take and are planning on camping for most of that. We want to avoid the typical yellowstone/tetons crowds, and are willing to go a few hours any direction to get to something fun before we trek back home to Arizona.

I'm looking for some suggestions for good camping spots around that area. Since it's just going to be our vehicle, I'm not going to be looking to do any serious off-roading to get somewhere, but dirt roads and 4WD required drives to get somewhere are always preferable (I've got basic recovery gear and a winch, but no partner in crime to pull me out if we really get hosed).

Scenic views and no crowds are the goal. Bonus points for a loop or multi-day drive that we could spend a a few days on dirt with some nice spots along the way. Double bonus if there's some hiking or mountain biking in the area that you could suggest as well.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I spent some time down in Pinedale about 10-15 years back doing some research in college. Lots of great views of the Wind River Range and there were some good 4wd trails into the mountains. We camped along Fremont Lake back then. Not a long drive from Jackson, maybe about 45 minutes? You can also cross over the Teton Pass to the west and there are some laid back little towns in Idaho. Not as touristy as Jackson Hole.

Find the town of Kelly northeast of Jackson - follow the river road east - and keep on 'till you run out of people.......... Please - remember this is bear country! We used to hunt this area until the wolves ran off all of the elk.
