Sway bar delete is probably the most advantageous mod for off roading you can do. Even more so than just upgrading suspension or re-gearing. As a bonus: it's free. I deleted mine and feel zero negative difference in handling. I round corners smoothly and quick. As far as living in LA (I spent 5 years living in Santa Monica and commuting on the 405 and 10 daily) you're never gonna be at speed high enough to swiftly turn your wheel and lose control. Just be concencous when you are at higher speeds. I rarely go over 70.

    Rubbing. :boink:

Keep those infos to yourself, Danny!
I'm fatter than yours and haven't missed mine one bit. Heavier coils counter-act nose dive and act like a pseudo-sway-bar.

Worst case? Try it. Don't like it? Put 'er back on.

It's worth noting it's most realized at high speed as it makes the front suspension fully independent. On a 4x4 you're running out of travel on other components (especially with stock-length shocks/springs) long before the sway bar stops movement.

Mount up a "Don't Tread On Me" flag. Remind them who pays their checks.

Great call. I forgot what coils you said you slapped on, eon, but tis true what Deny said about heavier coils off setting the absence of the sway bar. I've heard with 5100 Billie's complain about the scaryness of no sway bar and then guys with icons and kings (such as Deny and I) say "what's a sway bar?"

    Pretty much. Consider:

A sway bar is simply tying the arms together, right? Down force on the outside arm of a turn creates a lever force upwards on the inside arm, right? These have the effect of changing the slip angles in a turn. This can either give literal or implied feelings of improved handling. It definitely gives it a bit more of a "drunk-man" feeling in some situations. The body of the truck feels like it's following along with the frame and wheels, but this is often a symptom of a lift anyway.

I vote you try it. You may like it or not. Worst case: not permanent. Try it on and off road. Move that wheel around a bit when on a freeway alone and feel the vehicle move under your influence. You'll know pretty quick if it's good to your touch or not. I've had a few "emergency maneuvers" at freeway speed and, while the truck definitely felt like it was reluctantly agreeing with my choice of input, it never felt like it disagreed enough to hit someone or doabarrelroll.

Thanks man, that night the four of us hit up the Rowher trail on the 4th was the last good night her and I had together, I won't forget it.

lol, I've heard similar stories regaring 5100's and sway bar removal. But I also know that many have done it and have nothing but good things to say. I guess it's an easy enough thing to put back on if I decide it feels too sketchy, but I suspect I'll enjoy the off-road benefits too much. I always keep it under 70 anyhow for both peace of mind and mpg's. I'll try to find the time to get under my truck and wrench it off before Saturday's run to see how it does.

I got the OME 881 coils, so far I love everything about the setup. Driving over the speed bumps in my neighborhood on the way home was a piece of cake at just under 30mph, with my stock suspension I had to brake to 10mph or so to keep from hearing the dreaded "clunk". Feels like I have much more control over my truck now with this setup.

Looking forward to seeing how it does on Pilot Rock this weekend :mudding:

    This makes me genuinely sad.

I aim for 30+ on speed bumps... Let those shocks do their job! :burnrubber:

All part of life's journey my friend, it was a (relatively) mutual decision for the best so I'm not too stressed about it. Tomorrow is a new day

I just might be able to somewhat keep up with you guys on the trails now, instead of falling a mile behind haha.

No clue. Mine are still attached (and never move lol) so I don't know from experience. There is another member on here, @4x4runner2002 who was telling me he picks up his inside wheel when he turns it hard at speed and scares the shit out of passengers lol. He has a third gen 4runner which is almost the same thing as a first gen taco so that's something to keep in mind. First to second gen might act differently :notsure:

Like everyone else said though, try it and see what feels good. Just wait a bit and get used to the lifted feeling first befpre you try it, otherwise there might be something that makes you uncomfortable that is actually from the lift, not the sway bar delete:thumbsup:

@eon_blue another +1 on removing the sway bar. I had my sway bar off with my bilstein 5100s and it was great

Removing the sway bar was one of the best mods. @eon_blue if you really want to get the feel of what it does go about 50 to 65 mph on the freeway and shake your steering wheel back and forth a little.Really only a little bit. That will tell you how dangerous it could be if you had to swerve around somebody. Mine dips pretty good with the 650lb coils but I feel safe and comfortable with it.

I find no sway bar makes passengers more uncomfortable than me. Body roll on the windy roads to big Bear actually managed to make me motion sick while I was driving... That's NEVER happened before.
