leveling 2016 with bilstein adjustable 5100

265/70/r17 ko2. I have a gravel driveway, so my measurements are not very accurate. It seems to be consistent with what most are saying. Between 1.5 and 1.75. I had no rake before the aal. Now its about 1.75. Once i add canopy i expect 1+.

 

Looks great man! Also, did you use any spacers on the front in addition to the coil setup to accommodate any slight driver side lean?

 

No. If i was gonna go higher i would have. I can also add later oncethings settle. So far ive only measured 1/4 inch difference.

I've been reading on here that the TRD OR Bilsteins are valved similarly as the 5100's, but you think the rears were stiffer than stock. That is interesting. I have a TRD OR and I was thinking of just 5100's up front (on 885's) and possibly replacing the rear spring pack with something like a Wheelers 5 pack (about 1.5" rear lift from what I can tell) and then leave the stock Bilstein shocks back there.

It may be too soon to tell, but how's the ride and handling? Have you taken it off pavement or on rough roads yet? Love to hear your feedback!

 

So, i ordered my shocks first, then the tri-pack, then the coils. I thought, what the hell, I'll throw the back shocks on for shits and giggles. I did this while waiting for my coils. It instantly felt better over rough surfaces going slowly. But on the hwy or going over railroad tracks fast. It chucked me around. It sucked on washboard. It made me really reconsider my whole lift. I reached out to the tw community, and was reasured i was on the right path. So far it feels great. I haven't been offroad yet. Just had it aligned by toyota today. I was in there for 2.5 hrs. He claimed they were having a hard time getting it right. I think it was bs. I think they were probably just behind. They did it for free. When i showed up he said "it pulls to the left" wink wink. Then the did it on warranty. Here's a pic with 170lbs of sandbags, simulating a canopy. This is exactly what I'm looking for. About 1inch of rake. Hope the helps. I think you need the 5100's for extended travel with the new pack. Thats why i went 5100's all around. The handling and ride is great. Better cornering and not too stiff.

 

Give her a little time to settle and then you should have a better feel for how it all handles.

 

Dammit, I can't decide... I spend hours looking at pics on this site... Oh that looks nice w/ 885 OEM springs, seems what I'm looking for, then I see 887 OEM spring lifts, and I'm like, look at that, that looks bad ass too.... Someone just tell me what to get 885 or 887? Get 885's and run with 3piece aal. For 1.5" to 1.75""265/70/r17. Go 887's with the 3 piece aal with overload for 2" to 2.5". Then run 275 or 285. The latter is gonna cost you some mpg's and maybe some power. U choose.

 

Ok, so you're at roughly a 1.5" rake after adding the progressive leaf pack... Hummm.. what about running the 885's (Bilsteins set to 0"), and adding headstrong 1/4" top mount spacers to get it more less level with the rear after adding progressive 3 leaf pack. Mind you, I'm still installing the SumoSprings I've already bought, but with a AAL added, they don't touch, and thus add no additional lift..... So much to think about. Thanks for your help though. Think I'll go 885 route.

 

Since you have the sumos, just do the front with the billys at zero and 885's. Leave the stock shocks on the rear and add the sumos. That should be maybe 1/2" rake. I did the aal because i wanted a 1" rake after i add a canopy.

 

Anyone running the 5100's set at 1.75 on stock TRD coils without LR UCA's? Any issues setting alignment?

I had this set up on my new 12' DBL Cab 4x4. Great improvement in ride over stock.
Got a small lift in rear from 5160 s too. About 1/4 ". Not an exact comparison for you since it's last gen but I would say go for it.

 

Well my lift is on my 2016 TRD sport 4x4 double cab (no added weight)and it was not really what I was expecting. I put 5100's all around with a toytec tec add a leaf. The rear came out as expected with 1.75" of lift, but the front with OME 887 coils only gave me a 1 1/8" height increase over stock. I was hoping for at least 2" of lift. Not sure what to try next but I am leaning towards OME 888 coils which should give me 1/2" plus toytec spacers which will give me the other 1/2" plus a 1/4" spacer for the drivers side lean. I was also thinking of 886's with no spacers and a drivers side 1/4" but worried about ride quality. Any thoughts? My goal is 1/2" rake

My guess is the ride will be harsher/stiffer as you go up. But what would I know?

 

I don't think it's recommended to run 886 coils without OME shocks.
Do you have pics of your current setup?

 

Here is a pic. The angle makes it look slightly worse then it is. I have as much or more rake then I did stock so well over 1" still with drivers side lean.

 

Looks great. If you go with 888 coils I'd ask the seller if topplates are recommended. Headstrong and Toytec reply pretty quickly

 

Toytec, says they don't normally test Bilsteins with OME coils but he has see other guys do what I want to do with the 888's and spacers + drivers side lean spacer. Based on the results on my truck with the 887's I'm guessing I will get close to another 1" on the passenger front and 1.25" on the drivers. This would give me close to 1/2" rake and even out the lean.
