My tacoma will be shipped in from the mainland into Honolulu late August and will be needing RECON and inspection asap. Any fellow members recommend a auto shop that is Tacoma friendly for state inspection and/or a shop that can perform an alignment and provide a legal alignment within factory spec print out sheet for RECON?

    RECON related, I have a 2014 dcsb sport 4x4

    mods are:
5100 with eibach springs 3in lift with rear leafs
    18x9 bfd wheels with 278/85/18 toyo AT2
    SCP Upper control arms
Alignment is in spec, But according to RECON info on website I need to provide a alignment sheet within factory specs to pass recon correct with in 30days?
Still have mud flaps, Trimmed flaps right above the 4x4 lettering, should be find for RECON correct?
All lights are upgraded to LED
    BHM, reflectors not painted
    weld on sliders
    avid front light bar
    front and rear LED pod
Had 20% tint all around but I recently removed the tint, planning to get legal RECON spec tint after I get recon and inspection completed. Legal RECON tint is 35% -+ 6% so 30% is legal correct? also the rear tint on trucks can be any darkness, so 5% all the rear is legal? and the front strip 5% can only be the top 4in?

I should be okay with both RECON and inspection from what I described correct?

Any input would greatly be appreciated!
    Thanks John

Good to go as long as
    1. Your tires don't stick out past the fenders
    2. Leds are failing safety check these days
    3. You didn't list it BUT, if you have hids take them out before recon and don't leave any trace of them.
    4. If you have an aftermarket intake, recon checks for that (must be bolted down)

    1. I believe my tire tread are not sticking out past the fender but the side walls are.
    2. I have CREE LED headlights, should throw in some stock bulbs just to be safe?
My fog lights are OPTIUX Yellow, any problem with yellow fogs?
engine is all stock, other than 2nd intake filter removed and K&N drop in

Anything aftermarket on headlights won't pass, best to put back stocks.
Fog lights should be okay, becuase they're auxiliary lights. They passed my friends 4 runner with yellow tinted fogs. But might want to call

I would just put all the stock lights back on just so it's not a hassle for you. Pass the recon and safety and as soon as you get home put the lights back in.

watch the mud flaps too. heard it needs to be at least half way down the tire and cover the entire tread. I'm about to go find out this week.

Dang. And thought Kommiefornia was bad. I feel for you OP. Good luck!

Yeah, thats what Im leaning towards.

Please update after RECON. Not much I can do sense I already trimmed the mud flaps.

So what happens if you fail RECON? Do they tell you what failed and you can fix the issue and try to pass RECON again? Is there a fail fee or reentry

    thanks

I don't believe there is a fail fee.

IIRC, the fee is a one-time charge of $15 (exact change required).

If you fail, you have 30 days to fix all errors and return.

If you do not return, you may need to pay the fee again; but don't quote me on that.

And yes, you do need an official print out of an alignment with the past 30-days and provide it to the Recon Inspection office.

Nice, I just had to go out and check my mud flaps, even after the trim the mud flaps are still cover more than half the tire. Hope it passes!

So I should get my windows tinted legally before going to RECON correct or can I just do it after recon and inspection? Do they document ever mod on the truck?

Yes, definitely recommend getting window tint within legal specs before Recon. Don't give them a reason to fail you.

They give you a sheet to fill out. It is up to you to document which mods you have and how specific you want to be, but if they catch something that you did not write down, they may fail you.

Or worse, if HPD pulls you over for it, they may give you a ticket.

The sheet doesn't give you a lot of space for great detail, so recommend writing generically.

Sorry to ask so many questions I just want to make sure Im prepared for all the BS, this might sound stupid but I have to write down I trimmed the mud flap? Is that considered a mod?

Also if I put stock head/fog light bulbs in to pass RECON/inspection then go home and install my LED light back in, I can get pulled over and cited for aftermarket LED lights? Has anyone had problems with LED headlights?

    thanks J

I'll see if I can take a picture of my recon sheet and send it to you. It'll probably answer most of your questions.

Please do that would be greatly appreciated if you could send me a PM with that info!

I never thought I would have this much trouble getting a lightly mod truck street legal... especially when I see other lifted taco with metal bumpers and tons of mods

I currently also have LED light pods in my upper grill. Do I have to remove these to pass RECON and safety inspections?

Best bet is to call the Recon Office and if you can, get it in writing so they can't back out on what they tell you (but doubt they will send you anything).

I think you'll be alright. If at all anything, they may require you to put a cover or caps on them. But again, I'm not the inspector(s).

Damn I'm headed yalls way too soon. Thanks OP for asking these questions and please let us know how it all turns out.

Any word on a bottom/rear cat delete being any kinda problem? Running the URD y-pipe to the URD exhaust with a cut off at the rear axle.
