Got the tent secured and locked to the bars. The tent is now not able to be removed from the bed bars and is secured tightly at all four mounting points.

So I got a killer deal that I could not pass up on a Tepui Kukenam (not my first choice, but a good starting point for the price)from a guy off craigslist.... how far apart should my cross bars be? does it matter? I have a leer 100XR

    Thanks

That would be great. These are my top two, but I do want to look at Odin designs and get a feel for those tents. I come from backpacking and mountaineering tents, so I'm not familiar with canvas tents, but if I'm spending 2k I want to get the best I can.

Yup. Another thing to consider is how the company backs their product, customer service, parts availability, etc.

Just to follow up from the mattress topper discussion from a week and half ago...

-Got a 2 inch one off Amazon
-Covered it in a California King size fitted sheet
-Added it to the tent's mattress
-Had a hard time folding the tent closed and broke the interior black straps
-Fixed the straps using a cambuckle
    -Went camping
-Made the girlfriend very happy with the new sleeping surface
-Next up: Modifying the straps using a stronger system

Well worth it. Only complaint - there is no way the sleeping bags will fit in the tent while folded with the additional mattress topper. Oh well.

CVT Mt Shasta Extended... I could probably fit a blanket in there if I really tried... I've also got the anti-condensation mat in there too.

Just the cover wouldn't zip? I have the shasta standard and had two 8lb sleeping bags, blanket, and 4 pillows and it shut perfectly fine. Now the cover was a MASSIVE PITA to zip shut.

It wasn't so much the zipper as it was the folding process and the closure of the interior straps. I'm probably having a harder time with my extended version because it has more fabric to stuff in. And yes, without the mattress topper I had no problem fitting sleeping bags and pillows in. I should note... It's definitely not a CVT issue by any means. I simply tried stuffing too much in. Have communicated with Bobby about all this and he's been helpful in finding a solution.

Like I said, once I reinforce my current cambuckle straps (the ones I used as replacements were simply affordable and available down the street - I was trying to leave town the next morning)... I should be good to go. Maybe I'll find a way to fit a bit more up there. I just don't want to push the limits of the tent too much.
