for sure, only reverse a 'prime' lens, not a zoom. best done with normal to mild tele, like 50 to 120mm for a 35mm FF camera, or 35 to 100mm for a APS camera. an actual macro lens, like the Canon EF100/2.8 Macro, doesn't need reversal as its already a symmetric design and is optimized for extreme closeups.

In my old Pentax film photography days, I most frequently used lens reversal with bellows extenders, like this:

That's pretty good for just holding it up to the camera!

You have the camera on a tripod? It'd be pretty tricky holding a lens, camera and focusing!

Nope, handheld. Focusing is simple with this setup, all you have to do is move the slightest bit forward or back. Try it and you'll be surprised how easy it is. Just use the camera on manual.

I picked up my Nikon 50mm 1.8D for $65 in practically new condition used. I don't know if you shoot Canon or Nikon but they can be found cheap. Hell, for mounting backwards you can use an old manual focus lens.

I use to have a Canon 50 1.4 but didn't use it that often to justify keeping it. i think my next lens is going to be a 24mm prime, but if a can find a old 50 I might snag it just for fun!

Would you guys buy a Canon 7D for $300 with 97,000 clicks on the shutter? Its getting up there in mileage but the price reflects it.

You could go full frame for a tad more.

Sounds like a decent price. However I'm not a Canon guy so what do I know. :D

These do have 180 day warranty and no hassle return on them though.

I have a full frame body now, just looking for a crop body for when conditions are ideal and I'm focal length limited. I was just thinking about scooping it up since they are going for about $500-600 (low shutter count). The higher shutter count is my main concern. The 7D is rated for 150,000, which I understand is just a number and they could go higher or lower.

or just keep shooting with your FF and crop when you want a tighter shot than your lens can deliver, thats virtually the same thing as a APS

I had both for a while thinking the same thing. I ended up never using the crop after the full frame. I finally sold it and got rid of a lot of weight in my backpack. I thought I would use it but in the end it just sat there as a backup.

I could, but if I cropped my FF (20.1MP) to match the size of the 7D I'd be left with a file that was only around 8MP. The only way you could make it work is if you had the new 5Dsr that is 50MP.

Which one did you order? I just ordered a Fotodiox brand through Amazon. Dude, you're from Oregon. I'm from Oregon. You go to these cool places to explore. I don't. Lets go on a photo-op!! Kidding..kinda..

This is the one I ordered..

that one will let you reverse a 52mm filter thread lens, but it will NOT let you control the electronic-only aperture of a EOS lens, so its best used with an older all manual lens that has 52mm threads and a manual f/stop ring. If you've still got a 'real' camera store left around their used counter likely has a selection of older lenses, the brand isn't important as long as its 52mm, since you'll be mounting it by its filter threads ...
