I have a '12 base taco crew cab that has a slight downward front end slope, all stock it seems. I was looking into getting a pair of 5100 per some threads i saw on here. My question is if i do purchase those, do i have to get new coils? Or can i use stock? Will i need AAL's immediately in the rear or can i go without for a few weeks? I am a newb at all of this and i will be going to bed soon so may not respond till tomorrow morning. Thanks in advance.

With just the 5100 in the front? No AAL's in the rear?

Its supposed to have the slight rake down in front. When you load the bed it will be level.

I understand that but it will be unloaded more times than loaded so i was looking to have a more even look.

You won't need new coils with the Billies set at level. And no you won't need a AAL

I have 5100's set at .85 and nothing added to the rear and it looks pretty level. I've had it that way for years with no issues. If you set them to 1.75, maybe you'll want something in the back

You won't need the aal if you level it. You will need it when you decide you want to raise the front higher than that. Then you will need bigger tires cuz those will look too small. Then you will be running down the rabbit hole like the rest of us adding more and more.:D

OME 885 coils will give you right around 2" of lift and a great ride on your double cab. I honestly don't notice any real difference in ride (or height) between my 885 and my old setup - stock coils set at 1.75". My access cab got about 2.5" of lift because it's lighter than a DC.

OME 885s. You can get them on Amazon for $167. Here's mine with 885s and 2" AAL

Can you change the setting on the front 5100's without disassembling the coil?

Ok, haha forgive my inexperience but i need to get this straight. With 5100's in the front jacked up 2-3" and a AAL in the rear i will need 885's all around to make up the extra space or just in the front?.....followed by bigger tires of course.

Nope, you have to disassemble them. The part that adjusts on the shocks is the part that the bottom of the spring rests on. You have to fully disassemble them, move that perch up or down, and then reassemble.
No, not quite. If you use the 5100s with stock coils, you obtain the lift from the shock by preloading it. That means you're putting tension on the coil and that's what pushing the tire down, causing lift.

With aftermarket coils such as 885s, you obtain the lift from the longer coil, and NOT the shock. This is why it rides smoother.

So if you want to run aftermarket coils, you leave the front 5100s set to 0. The rear doesn't have coils, so if you want to lift the rear, you'll need an add a leaf, as well as longer shocks (5100s). Hope this makes sense.

This does...stupid me for not checking the rear for coils
One last question. If i run the 885 up front can i use my stock shocks? Thanks for explaining this.

    No problem!

No, you can't use your stock shocks since you risk over extending them. Gotta use 5100s (or another comparable shock)

Would I be able to fit 265/75R16 like Coopers SST on stock suspension or will they rub and better to put them on after the lift? The reason I ask is that someone in my area is selling 2 at 60% tread for $150. I was thinking about putting them on the front and getting matching new on the rear. Currently have the stock 245/75/R16

They'll fit fine. Worst case is you'll have to remove your front mud flaps

Does the height adjustment on the front 5100s affect ride stiffness? I'd think that even though you increase the ride height setting and increase the preload it will find the same equilibrium once you get the truck back on the ground.
