yes but every car will rust nothing will ever be perfect. Do 2nd gen Tacoma's have more of a rust problem then most? Absolutely!!!! but is Toyota taking care of it the best they can? YES! stop freaking out about the new tacomas and assume its going to whither away like the 2nd gens. IF IT DOES TOYOTA will make it right. If you are this worried about it then you should not be driving a Tacoma.

Toyota had 3 generations to fix this accelerated frame rust issue. They keep replacing disintegrates frames with replacements that still disintegrate at an accelerated pace. I believe 2nd gens up to 2011 are the only ones that are covered leaving the last 4 years with no chance with their frame rots.

not trying to bitch. i just think its kinda unsat to settle for a rusting frame issue that toyota has had a decade to fix. i truly hope it gets fixed because i love the tacoma but i dont want them doing what they did to 12 owners when they stopped the replacements and 150 percent buy back and just told them to kick rocks

But have you owned a JK Wrangler, rust is what keeps the welds from breaking after 1000 miles. :D

The 2016 rusting significantly is still yet to be seen in large #'s (at this point, and considering the one owners photos of rust around the drain hole, I'm scared it might show up in higher numbers). But Toyota certainly had 2 decades to fix the problem.

My gawd, I hope so. My 2010 has significant rust on it. I'm questioning if I should sell it before it gets too bad, if I should sell it and get a 3rd gen assuming 3rd gens won't have a rust problem as well, or sell it and get a Frontier and hold my nose at the cheap plastic interior / 10+ years old design. Minor issues I can deal with but rusting frames - come on already.

You are 16 and you own a $40K truck. WTF?

When I was 16 my first vehicle was a rusted out 1977 Honda Civic / Deathtrap I paid $50 for. Ughhh, I must have had shitty parents.

If I recall the story correctly, he's doing well in school, and his parents have money, we should all be so fortunate!

Worst rust I've seen is the upper/west NY region, we saw a 2yr old mazda 3 with rust streaks down the side of it like it was part of a boat graveyard.

now now there is no reason to get jealous of younger people getting stuff for free, Me personally I am glad my father bought me a 2wd automatic 1991 Jeep Cherokee with 241k miles on it for 1k. I treat my things better and I learned to love that beater. I still miss it even today.

Other states like Washington, Maine and Oregon use dirt to clear out snow. Why do the rest still rely on salt?

Yah, I had high grades in school and my parents did very well but still only $50 car for me (which I paid for). Different times I guess.

Is it just sand or sand mixed with salt? They use the latter here.

No it's straight up sand. I use to live in Washington and I never washed my frame on my jeep for 2 winters.
