I made out really good. With my truck miles had 173000 and 10 years old I got from Toyota just under 15,000.

holy crap, that is really good...I read somewhere on here that someone saw an invoice from Toyota for their frame replacement at the dealership that did the work (under the recall) and it was something crazy like 18 grand for parts and labor. If their paying out that much per frame replaced it seems like the buyback program might have been the better deal for them financially. Then again, it's probably easier with the replacement program to turn people down if they "don't meet requirements", so who knows.

When I gave them my 1998 Tacoma I moved up to a 2008 TRD off road. It cost me 12000 out of my pocket for a brand new Tacoma.

consider yourself lucky!! That looks brand new compared to some. Check your frame by the catalytic converter. That's where my holes are and a majority of others. I'm not sure if 2009 was under the recall...I thought it was 2005-2008. Call your dealer, they'll get your VIN and let you know.

The worst rust on my Tacoma IS by the Cat... Gonna try and get a pic of that if the rain stops... This is a NY truck so it has seen salted roads.

Good luck op. I had a red 06 dcsb trd offroad just like urs a few years ago and it was rusting so fast it was scary. Never could get dealership to fix it. But they was happy to take it in on trade like it was fine and sell it to the next poor guy.

Some people theorize that the heat from the catalytic converter promotes the corrosion in that area -- i.e., heat increases the rate of a chemical reaction.

The reality is that these frames actually have a self-destruct mechanism built into them. In the back of the front cab mounts, there is a gaping hole into the center of the boxed section of the frame, right at the catalytic converters! The cab mount is sitting right there where the wheel sprays nasty salt crap straight up into it. So essentially, you've got perpetual salt crap shooting off the wheel and into the frame at that precise point.

I closed off my front cab mounts to keep the road crud out. I suggest that everyone do this.

Why not get it inspected at the dealer that is going to replace the frame. One way or another theyll have to work with you. Either give you a loaner or something until replacement.

Update on my truck...they called today things are going well. Totally agreed to put all of my OME stuff back on no questions asked. When I initially talked to the Service Manager back in May, he was hinting that he would have to charge me to put my Dakars and OME crap on. What?? Much nicer dude and more competent said that's ridiculous. Anyway, they have 4 teams of 2 that do frame swaps all day long...and they know what they're doing! Hoping to have it back Wednesday night!!!!

I got pulled over in Richmond after my tacoma failed because of a cracked windshield. They put that rejection sticker on it. I was told I had three days.

Mine was inspected and "No Significant Perforation Found", thus it was not eligible for replacement. But I'm doing the same as you, keeping after it.

Rust may never sleep but on Tacomas it seems to take Trucker's Choice.

My 2009 looked similar to yours, maybe even a little worse. I wire wheeled mine, Eastwood treated, and painted. Still looks good 1.5 years later and I am not concerned at all about the safety or integrity of the frame. Looks like you did a good job as well.

Just cut a circle out of something plastic and glue it into the hole.
