I forgot to say thank you for noticing that the flip kit keeps improving. More good stuff to follow, like the shock tower which im excited about but quality takes time.

You also bring up a good idea, having a tested full package to offer, I think that is possible around the corner. And 2 flavors, spring over flex pack, and spring under speed pack.

What you posted here about the shackle angle and its effect on spring rate leads to why the shackle flip is well suited for offroad flexibility, especially with significant shackle angle like 30-45deg.
On level ground, the shackle has the spring stretched back and flatter. As one wheel gets tucked up, the spring rate decreases and the wheel tucks easier, while the opposite side starts to droop and the spring unloads, the rate increases as the shackle swings forward and presses the drooping wheel down.

However, I recommend the expo packs to work better with significant shackle angle. Notice that @SMKYTXN has a full size Chevy truck spring in his setup, stretched out wit 55 deg shackle angle in a light truck. That's why I was apprehensive for owners to run 45 degrees with lesser springs.

This probably isn't the place for this discussion, but it's interesting to hear that it's a digressive spring rate. Is the ideal paring for a digressive spring rate is a digressive shock like an Icon? Seems like a progressive shock like a King would be a counter-productive dynamic. Thoughts?

If you design a kit such as a "flex kit" that is designed to work together and with a recommended leaf pack, coupled with the type of R&R you've shown here, sign me up for one. That would take the guess work out of a rear setup. While informational, I've noticed there is a lot of people running an assortment of products with different results. Yes every truck is different, and there is some trial and error. But if you remove that and tell me "with my kit and these leafs, you'll be able to run X length of shocks in the rear and get X amount of up/down travel,"then I'll know exactly what to buy and what I'll get. I like that.

I almost pulled the trigger on the BAMF/King group buy today, but couldn't bring myself to do it because of this thread and the possibility that maybe he'll be able to offer a different mount for other shocks or longer travel. I don't know if I can do billsteins on the BAMF setup. Will I pull 12" or 14" with the SOS shackle flip? These are things that I spend time researching before I tell the wife I just spent a bunch of money.

My rear will have to wait a little longer.

I don't know much about valving and what rates work on Tacomas, but I think it won't effect low speed crawling with a shackle flip.
For all other driving with the same setup, I'd say progressive valving would be better, because I think it works well on Tacomas to lower spring rate and increase damping

In my opinion, because I spent months researching and a weekend doing the install Its a tall order and going to be very difficult making a kit like that unless its in the factory mounting position. Thats really the only way one can say with '"X" leaf pack and "Y" shock you will get approximately this travel.

Any kit that requires cutting of the factory mounting locations and the installer to cycle, measure and cut would very likely end up with different #s because it wasnt done properly or it was bumped or strapped to limit it.

I personally feel (because of my results) that a relocate should be done in conjunction with the shackle flip. This way you can cycle everything together and work with your specific leaf pack to get the most from the setup. I personally could've used all of the 12" shock by removing the rear clip on my pack but in the end chose to not make the shock be the limiting factor. I chose to let the leaf pack run out of droop at 11.5ish and leave that buffer in the shock to avoid damage to it.

I think that is some good insight, but I don't think it will be very hard. To me, the 3 significant variables would be the spring consistency and welding the lower shock mount on the axle and possibly bump stops. My brackets are very consistent, and shock lengths will be consistent for 1 part number. And I would use the factory front mount.
This is part of the reason I am making the upper shock mount tabs adjustable on my relocation, that and it allows you to switch parts out if you want later without having to cut something off your frame or axle.

i know very little of these shackle flip kits..

Im guessing this helps in adding lift in the rear of the tacos? ~1"?

do the stock hangars for the leaves need to be cut off to instal this?

is there a write up for installing these?

I'm not sure where you are getting "inverted" from. This design still shows the factory cantilever design, just relocated. It is in no way "inverted" imo. For a SUA setup, that seems optimal to me.

Could you explain why a tension type shackle is preferable to a compression type shackle for spring under axle? I've seen trucks set up both ways and I'm wondering what the difference is specifically for SUA.
