Oh wow, never saw that coming! lolo!
But glad you got it off your chest, and that you’re gonna do the sensible thing and wait till after the warranty to install your filter, because just to replace the in-tank fuel pump alone can easily set most ppl back $1k.

But if it’s of any consolation to you, I too was concerned at first some 14 years ago for my new Toyota when I found out they did away with the replaceable filter, so I can understand you concern mate, but no worries, It somehow works real good!

Glad I was able to help
    Cheers

Jeff, you ALWAYS help in spades! :)

    Cheers!

FWIW, my 2009 Land Cruiser (which only uses port injection) has a spot on the frame, along with a break in the hard line, to mount a traditional efi fuel filter. Some countries receive the filter, others, like the USA, do not. I need to check the fuel pump and see if they run the sock with the filter.

I'll be surprised if there is no sock filter in the tank, they've been having those ever since they had carburetors on autos so that's quite a while back.
Those vehicles are sold all over the world where bad fuel is the rule, but here, even the worst fuel is adequate. But I only use top tier regular fuel on my truck.
But now that you mention that, one of these days I'll look and see if the Taco has that too, since all the components are sold all over the world too.

    Cheers!

Good thoughts, thanks. From my brief search, those Land Cruisers that come with the filter, also have the sock. The oe diagrams do not show a break in the line for the 2016 Tacoma.

Negative, sand was able to get past the in tank "filter" and destroyed my fuel system. It was a very small amount of sand as well.

Which I am now paying for. Insurance said they only cover the in tank items, it took a lot of work and convincing to get them to cover the whole deal.

It might cost YOU $1000 to replace that in-tank pump. Not going to cost ME over $200 if I replace the entire canister, or $100 if I just replace the pump itself, which is what I generally do for most that ask for help.

If someone wants to add an inline filter, it won't affect their warranty in any way, nor will it reduce engine longevity. Personal choice. There's WAY too much disinformation given on fora like this.

BTW MY warranty is long since gone. I own an 07 DCSB with about 140K miles on it now.

Auto zone shows a retail of $320. My cost is $250.

Found a dealer on Ebay selling the complete assembly for $108.

Rock Auto advertises it for $250.

pump by itself (trivial to install in cartridge) is in the 60-100 range depending on who you buy from...

    good enough?

Why are YOU here? I was simply responding to a question about adding an inline fuel filter.

The question asked applies to ALL tacos (and other vehicles as well).

My truck didn't come with aftermarket parts, so I'm not putting aftermarket back on it.

As a former parts guy, I will NOT put aftermarket retail parts into my 40k truck with 5200 miles on it.

and as a former Mechanic, I also know that that labor cost, and dealer parts costs are inflated.

It is what it is unfortunately..

    I Agree
Even the most mundane items are too expensive now, like a signal bulb. That's why I wouldn't want to be in a position where my warranty could be denied for something I added. Shop labor rater at dealers are well over $100 hr and private shops are not far behind. Most techs have to purchase their own tools and $20k + investment in them is not far fetch at all, so labor rates are high.
I can do almost everything myself, but to access proprietary info and software parameter settings, you still need access to dealer equipment on a new vehicle.

    Cheers!

Sounds like a dealership line. 90% of those aftermarket parts are made on the SAME assembly line as brand name replacement parts. From someone that worked on such production lines while I was in school. Same idea for tools. I've been using autozone/advance auto parts for as long as they have existed, never had a problem with anything they sold me. I have a big problem with dealership parts that cost 3-5x more.
