I really love the idea of Duratracs for the snow and light off-roading for camping. However, we don't get a ton of snow typically, and I do a lot of heavy commuting down to Seattle area, so I'd like the most mileage and quiet ride possible, which makes me think I should settle with KO2's. However, I hear the KO2 won't clear snow or mud nearly as well at the GY Tracs. I see a lot of KO2 on the road here, but wondering if it's just a popularity thing.

I've done a mod or two
For what it's worth, it likely is a popularity thing. But they do work well for the cost and last a very long time too. Mine did great in the snow this last winter and I have yet to have one pack so full of mud I couldn't keep on trucking.

I run Duratracs. They were pretty quiet (for an AT) for the first 30k miles. As I've worn down to the harder compound, they've gotten noisier and are a little slick in on some wet roads. Almost 50k miles on them now and I plan to replace them before fall. I'll definitely buy Duratracs again though based on the wear I've gotten and the snow/mud traction I get in the snoparks and ORV access areas. Oh, they look pretty cool too, IMO...

Edit: I'm in Skagit county and the worst slick wet roads I've experienced with these tires was last fall when they sprayed the roads with an anti-freeze compound. It was like driving on ice the first day after they sprayed. Other than that, I throw a couple bags of ice melt in the bed for winter and have no issues.

I refrained from the KM's and the amazing experiences I've had with them on the new rig in lieu of the new KO2's. I can say after 3k miles they have exceeded expectations in the dry/wet/road noise. Come this winter I'll put them through their paces in he snow and report back. BFG will be on everything I drive (unless it's a sportscar) haha

discount tire's on Lakeway. All day long. Had my Tracs put on there, and we also send customer cars there. Read reviews, that place is great.

OP, what tire did you settle on? I'm looking for tires for similar purpose -- lots of pavement with the occasional snow or mild off-road excursion.

I had Toyo Open Country AT/II on my 1991 pickup. 50k mi. warranty. Best wearing tire I ever had. Nice ride too, just aggressive enough, IMO. Will probably be putting them on my 08 AC when I get a chance.

Thinking of getting a set of these to put them on.

Wondering how they would fit on an 08...

Sounds like you have similar needs as I do. I ended up with Duratracs. Only about 5000mi in to them, and haven't seen any snow yet! But I'm looking forward to it!
I don't regret the choice at all. Price + weight + capability=Duratracs ftw.

Probably not as quiet as the KO2, but it's a handsome tire. I'm not looking for a quiet tire because it's a truck.

My concern is going for looks while sacrificing too much pavement performance... what size are you running?

Both tire's look great. No doubt about that. both are known for their surprisingly well behaved road mannerism. Typically you're going to sacrifice some
Road performance when looking for an aggressive tire offroad, just a way of life. To me, Duratracs met the balance I needed. KO2 would have been fine for me I'm sure, but only avail in Load E. Also, the tread voids on the KO2 are much smaller than the Duratracs. I need them for the muddy service roads in my area.

Also, I wanted to ensure my 2wd is as capable as possible when I need them, and Duratracs go a long way.
As everyone else will tell you, I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice. Both are great tires.
