My front case is a marlin 4.7 gearset and the back is standard 2.57 stock planetary gearset from the FJ case. I can say that with the manual transmission I usually end up with just using the 4.7 gears on most of the tougher trails and sometimes when you just want to fall asleep wheeling engage both low ranges. The rear 2.57 case I use for less technical shit. It is nice to have the option of both though. If you are going to go with gear driven cases on both I'd go with 2.28 in the front and 4.7 in the rear case, both 23 spline in and out for strength. Last thing you want to do is bust an input shaft on the trail.

If you don't mind me asking how much to buy all the parts and have him install them? I'm thinking about doing this to

It was $2200 I think shipped.

Install was around $1800 or so. They had to build a crossmember and modify drive shafts. You would need to call today man

Hey man, if you don't mind me asking, did you buy your setup directly from MC? Thanks!

just my opinion but Marlin adapters are a hell of a lot better built. I know trail gear is coming up in the world but still don't trust their crawl box adapters

Thanks, kinda the reason I posted up the info I found. Sometimes adapters are adapters, other times some items may have more R&D behind the design (oil path design, reinforcement, etc.) Wanted to see if this was the case, or to stay away.

You want the 4.7. Having stupid low for the hard stuff is nice, I'm usually in double low for any rock obstacles, 4.7 only (roughly 2.28 and 2.57) feels way too fast for anything but trail riding. Plus double with low crawling you are ALOT easier on everything and you are not bumping and bouncing off everything and you are limiting the shock loading of the parts which is what breaks stuff. Ill even use it in muddy rocks and usually can get good traction.

Go with marlin or inchworms stuff, TG is good for armor and things like that but stick with the best for the precision crawl box stuff.

I also read on pirate that FROR may be coming out with a crawler as well.

Trying to wait patiently for my MC TacoBox from RST. It's been forever and I'm getting antsy. Lots money that's been out of my hands for months now and nothing to show for it...

Just cuz of my auto i rarely shift into double low for rock obstacles because double low for me is 8.0-1 and that is stupid low. if i need wheel speed climbing up a wall and hammer down it's just a lot of noise and nothing happening.

I couldnt imagine 4.7s in my crawl box. L-L for me seems to damn slow most of the time, and not enough wheel speed for alot of stuff out here.

That being said, 4.7s are on my short list of mods remaining

There's a time and place for each gear option. My home park is red clay with rock mixed in for the most part. Having both cases engaged doesn't really help all that much, but I typically run the 4.7's in the crawl box instead of the 2.55 in the fj case.

Now the duals really shined when I hit up Moab earlier this year. Traction for days and the 12:1 ratio made the harrier climbs a breeze. Yeah, it took a bit longer, but I wasn't sketched out like I would have been if I would have had to ride the clutch all the way up. I went up Hells Revenge without touching the clutch once. :D

You need to watch the ginger, pretty sure hes in LL most of the time and he has 5.0:1 in the rear case with an auto!! You can watch each lug grip and wrap around the rocks lol! I double low most stuff around here, but i dont have that kind of patience!!

I solve the wheel speed problem around here by only wheeling when its dry LOL!!!

I think most of you guys that chimed in are manuals if I'm not mistaken. Not too many autos.

From reading, the torque converter comes into play. Trending estimates seems to be
    Manual - 100:1
    Auto - 80:1

Running through Grimm's site 4.88,37s,auto, factory chain tcase, with 2.28 crawlbox = roughly 80:1

    The same with 4.7s = roughly 165:1

    Big jump in difference.

My question is selecting 2.28 crawlbox or the 2.XX chain drive isn't all that different ? Leaving you really only with 2 gears essentially (2.XX or 2.XX and 2.28 combined)

Now with 4.7s you have , 2.XX, 4.7, or combined 12:1 essentially having 3 gears choices.

Anyone with the above mentioned Auto, 4.7 crawlbox, and 2.XX chain drive case? Or is the 165:1 with an auto too slow of a setup?

BTW the 2.XX is either 2.56 or 2.66 whatever the actual ratio is.

So just to understand the stock auto 4lo is 2.xx?

If that is the case. I will have the auto tranny - 4.7 crawl box - then stock transfer case at 2.xx. I will have in installed in 3 months.
