Focal IS 690Toy or other option?..

Anyone have any recent experience with these speakers? They seem pretty sweet as a direct fit and are fairly efficient. Going to be running them off of a Kenwood Double din if i get them. If there are better options please share. Any other recommendations in the 300 dollar range are appreciated as well.

 

Doesn't seem like a bad option... Focal's are up there in terms of quality, and that they've got a 6x9 with a built-in adaptor, it doesn't seem like a bad way to go if you're looking for a plug and play setup.

However, I would NOT run these off head unit power, they really do need an amp to be ran off of.

 

Thanks for the input TurboGT . What amp would you then recomend? Or at that point is it worth running a whole seperate setup with new wires and everything?

 

well if you add an amp, and speakers, you're pretty much running a whole new setup. Whether you run wires into the doors or run wires back up to the headunit is pretty incidental. A better question (for you) would be how much are you willing and able to spend? What else are you looking to add to your current setup (sub, rear speakers, some sort of crazy ridiculous processor)?

This little Alpine amp is solid, and for $125, it's really a steal IMO... but I could be considered a fanboy. In 8 years of installing car stereos (FWIW, that ended 10 yrs ago), I saw fewer Alpine failures of any equipment than any other mainstream brand, so I feel that my fandom is justifiable.

Well i took the plunge a while back and got 2 12 inch subs and they are doing good. I was satisfied with the door speakers more or less but i am always lookin to be better and the stock door speakers are on their way out.

Im open to options now and it looks like ill be getting another amp and and running wires to the doors. Being an access cab and no one really sitting in the back i was thinking of just getting a nice component set with an amp and leave the back speakers alone. That sound ok?

 

Sure... add that amp, maybe bridge down the 4 channels to 2 (more power to the fronts) and disconnect the rear speakers all together. In total, you'd probably be looking at $500 with the wires and all, but would be a decent little setup

I recently installed them in my 2012 AC. When I put them in I also sound deadened the doors as well.

As far as fitament goes yes like the box says plug and play, wiring only about 85% true. The 6x9 went in without a hitch, although for the pass side door I had to use the included extended wiring harness to reach the stock wires. The tweeters were a splice job, none of the supplied plug and play attachments worked. No problem but just letting you know up front the plug and play is a bit loose.

Honestly even off the stock head unit they sounded way better then the oem stock equipment. Mind you I deadened to doors so that helped, I would recomend. Highs were very nice and the mid and low were ok.

But they were lacking power, stock head unit is not pushing a lot. So.....I had a kenwood excelon x301-4 installed yesterday and I have been smiling ever since lol. Might add a small thumper down the road, for now the amp is bridged 2ch.

The focals have come alive, 150 rms x2 will do that lol. Very impressed! Needed to turn the volume up to 40+ with the windows down stock, now 20 is more then fine.
