    None...yet
Scientific weather stations collect in very specific shade and no wind conditions. You, my Tacoma driving friend, are almost certainly in the sun over hot asphalt in traffic with 100 other asshats running engines hot enough to cook off of. Given modern electronics, I'd wager it's pretty damned close if not exact.
Also, they use an algorithm as to how the temp updates. For example FoMoCo uses a system that'll almost immediately decrease a temp but needs several minutes sustained to raise a temp even 1 degree. (Think stoplight vs flowing air). Without this you'd jump 15degrees at every stoplight and lose 15 once air started flowing again.

Do people really not realize weather apps get the temperature from miles away? Do they realize miles make a difference?

+1. I watched the temperature swing 20* within 10 miles on the interstate this afternoon

I was reading a problem about thermometers in cars/trucks and the problems they have been experiencing. It's due to:

Wait a sec...you're trying to tell me that two different phones using two different apps (yet which get their data from the same meteorlogical source from a location that is very likely miles away and providing a reading from an hour or more previously) is giving a different temperature than where your truck actually is at that exact moment?

How can this be? The Internet is never wrong.

Oh hell lets just compare the temp. registered by the truck with a weather station that 5-10 miles from where you are. You know as a tech. I hate to here crap like that "well that's not what my app says it is" My answer to that is. Is the app measuring the temperature at the truck NO. So how can you say its not right. It's 4* get over it.

I'd dump the truck, that is unacceptable.

Never thought about that but it makes perfect sense. If the truck was reading the temp in real time it would be jumping all over the place and look like it's malfunctioning when in fact it's working perfectly.

    Thanks!

OMG. Things must be getting better if all we have to bitch about is the temp indicator in the truck being 4 degree higher. Does anybody read their owners manual?! "The correct or outside temperature may not be accurately displayed when stopped or operating at less than 12 MPG, because of location of temperature sensor actual temperature may be +|- 5 degrees than ambient air temperature".

    all bs aside

in conditions where I do know my outside temp... and also there is
no heat coming off the road interfering or otherwise (gray day...stuff like that)
....my tacoma and yaris -and- 4runner have always
been within 1 degree of true temp measured with a temperature probe

but from road heat, sun, shade, cold or hot random breeze, they can be 4 degrees off. way more if parked.

it is far more accurate near and below freezing than on warm
or hot days 70deg and higher

Check with another vehicle owner, even a different make and model, in the same location as you. Practically every car in the past 5 years has an outside temperature gauge.

I have a 2017. I have noticed frequently that the temp gauge is too high for the current temperature outside, noticeably. I have also noticed that when beginning to drive the truck, when cranking it, it reads the last temperature before the truck was turned off, then it will adjust down or up 2 degrees every 40 seconds to a minute. When the temperature drops dramatically, I want to know if it is below freezing, many times I am 4-5 miles into my trip before I get what appears to be an "accurate(ish)" read on the temp. This, like many of the little standard, non-running gear options on the truck, seems to be poorly thought out by the tech designers; a little disappointing for the price I paid. Like, why does the radio go off before I open the door after turning off the engine, why does it beep insanely when I get out with the truck open, telling me that the door is ajar; of course it is, I'm getting out, etc.

Pro tip to all reading this thread: the dealer can adjust the temperature shown on the display if you know how inaccurate it is. They can input a correction factor of a few degrees in either direction using Techstream.

Vehicle sensors are not at specified 5' off ground and you are probably sitting over pavement. My Tacomas always read high in day time until I moved. I checked accuracy as I passed bank gauges and mine were always close. I don't normally look at Tindra gauge before I move but it is very close when driving.

if you want accurate weather data go to national weather service directly. Everyone gets their info from NWS and adds their spin to it. BUT YOU MUCH UNDERSTAND HOW THE MEASUREMENTS ARE TAKEN. that part is critical.
