Thanks for that! I saw but wasn't sure about raising it as I don't want to lose any headroom being I'm 6'3. It does feel like the front of the seat is a bit higher then the back though.

My foam padding went bad while the truck was still under warranty. We could feel the bars in the back but the dealer would not replace it, called it "trim."

If you don't already, try removing your wallet from your back pocket on long drives.

I have plenty of headroom while although depending on my seat position ... forward wise ... I occasionally bump my head on the door jam.

I cannot stress how much of a big deal this is!! ^^^^ The wallet in your backpocket is one of the most damaging things to your spine as it gets, simply because you are no longer sitting flat, there is a slight lean and with that lean you are now compensating to keep straight. Over time that takes your spine out of alignment and will cause to unnecessary pains and aches.

I take my wallet out of my back pocket every time I get in the truck. I'm a larger American (6' 265) and the biggest problem I have is that the seat bottom bolsters don't have enough padding so the frame digs into the back of my thighs.

if the lower seat was tilt and height adjustable, it would make a HUGE difference in all of the above. on my volvos and mercedes, on long trips, every hour or so I make a slight adjustment in the tilt of the front of the lower seat, this shifts the weight around under your thighs and butt, and keeps things from getting numb. also my very short legged wife found by raising the back of the seat and lowering the front, she could drive without having to sit as close to the steering wheel.

    My 2001 Rav4 had a height-adjustable driver's seat.

Wow. This got interesting. Great to hear from so many people. I agree with
    LeftCoastNerd
I have a track car with Recaro racing seats. I've driven 4-5 hours on
there road with those seats and racy suspension and never had a comfort issue. My Tacoma seats, on the other hand, kill me. They are worn but I'll really be ticked if I get them rebuilt and they still suck.
    REVNHI
is in my area and very kindly offered to let me try his seats after they are rebuilt with new foam and Katskins. Hope it works out for him.

On top of all that I threw out my back this morning and have an 6 hour round trip to do tomorrow. Aaaargh!

Jimmy, can you explain? Did you adjust the seat tilt angle?

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I've been messing with my seats a lot lately. I commute 3 hrs to and from work (I stay the week and come home on weekends) and the seats in my TRD were bugging me. I'm 6'1" and 230. I initially tried 2 blocks of 3/4" oak under the back end of the seat to tilt it up a little. I will say it was a hell of a lot more comfortable but I lost a lot of upper vision from the windshield - couldn't see stop lights and my rearview mirror was covering everything on the right (I have a mirror riser from IMmryo so it can't go any higher). I ultimately bought some big, thick fender washers at Home Depot - 3/8" hole with a 1.25" diameter and made a stack of them at .5" high. I put a rubber tube I had in my garage in the center to bring the diameter of the hole down to the 10mm of the seat bolt. I purchased 2 longer grade 8.8 bolts (10mm 1.25 thread pitch) and installed them. The .5" lift to the back feels a lot better, especially on the back of my thighs and I can live with the height better than the 3/4" was at. Might be worth a try for you. The seat bottom tilts way too far back for me. Just getting it up a little makes a difference. Feels more like a big truck seat....but you lose headroom. It would be better if the front could be lowered, but that isn't as easy as raising the back. I thought about ordering the poly bushings but the bolts and washers only cost me about $8 total.

so who's got a gen4 4runner AND gen2 tacoma (or knows someone with said 4runner)? can you measure the seat bolt footprint and see if they are the same?

does the gen4 4runner 'limited' or whatever upscale version have power height adjustable seats? or mechanically height adjustable?

how about a Lexus GX (j120, 2002-2009)? I believe thats based on the same LandCruiser Prado chassis as the 4runner and our gen2 tacomas.. I bet /those/ have nice seats.

Line-X, LED Gauges, Bluetooth Stereo, TracRac, OME 2.5 Lift, Relentless Fab rear bumper, Shrockworks front. Bleh. So much good stuff.
I have an 03 and the seats are awful. AWFUL. Everyone hates them. Only thing wrong with my truck. I'm 33. 6'2, 220lbs. I was a rower in my early years so the bad lower back is expected, however the seats amplify it soooo much. Driving from SF to Sacramento and I'm in pain. Picked up a set of 98 4Runner Limited leathers seats with lumbar and I'm going to see if that make a difference. I think Tacomas just have shitty seats. The new Tacomas probably have nice ones, but they also have a "nice" pricetag, so...
