So my 2016 SR has the very basic cluster. Small display, doesn't read out my speed digitally, doesn't display MPG or any of that stuff. Anyone known if swapping in a cluster from a higher options 2016 will work or not? Would be nice to have those features.

You might need a control module to get the data to display

That's what I was thinking also but not sure if it's pre wired.

I already started thread similar to yours. We'll see if yours would be more active than mine, I hope. Most of the people here don't care about it, makes sense, it's only a few pps that got ugly 2" screen with SR model. I'm one of the few:)
I don't know if I will mess around with it, I might. I would wait for more of these trucks to show up at wrecking yards where they part them out. It's to expensive to buy from dealer.
But I didn't do much research except asking parts department. Parts guy told me it would be around 6k to do it, but that doesn't means that he knows what he's talking about. He was super quick to answer, without even looking for parts and what it would take/need.
    Good luck to you!

The optimal solution would be to find someone local to you that has a 2016 (like @Mobtown Offroad), and briefly swap clusters to see if it works. No cost involved.

SR gauges arnt ugly its just a basic package hence basic features... if your looking for more features that's why there is an SR5 trim. :frusty:

I replied to another thread about this, I think it was probably even the one @4RNR posted.

Problem: You don't have the steering wheel buttons to control it. You gotta find the P/N for that side trim on the steering wheel, and verify that it's also wired for that.

This one might be the deal killer- at least in the SR they are NOT wired for fog lights on the stalk from the factory. Not just that you need a different stalk, the wires in the harness that go from the stalk into the ECU are physically not there.

This leads me to believe you might also not have the wires to interface with the buttons in the harness.

However, the ECM itself is the same across all models, which means that your ECM should be calculating your instant fuel MPG, just not showing it to you. An aftermarket gauge like scangauge or ultragauge should be able to get you fixed up, should a cluster swap not pan out.

I wouldn't consider $24k cheap, and your TRDOR shares a lot of the same cheap parts the SR comes with.

I bought mine because I wanted a 4cyl, 5spd, 4x4 AC with no back seats. If I could have gotten a locker, keyless entry, and one touch windows on both sides as factory options, I would have.

I think the word is "less expensive" I don't think any parts on a Tacoma are "cheap" ;)

I agree too, I got exactly what I wanted/needed in mine SR 4x2 AC and actually would rather it be basic and reliable over full of new technology and problems

In this day and age 24k is cheap. That will barely buy a commuter car.

My troop just bought a Corolla S+ (leather, nav, auto climo, etc.) for $18k so thats a bit of a stretch. For a new truck yes $24k is cheap.

Sucker buyers everyday, a loaded Corolla is $22k sticker, and just like our trucks wiggle room to negotiate, anyone that pays $22k for a Cruze is well I'll just leave that alone.

Sticker is sticker. What people negotiate is a completly different topic.

Still why would you buy a Cruze at sticker of $22k when you can get a Corolla S at sticker for $22k, come on.
