In 2003 I bought a 1997 T100. It has 77000 miles on it. I still have it and has over 200,000 miles and runs like a dream. Started having some issues with it and have had a very difficult time letting go of the T100. I decided to keep it. But I bought a 2016 Tacoma SR5 3 weeks ago. It's just doesn't ride as smooth. the automatic shifting seems off, it runs sluggish and it's really got me very disappointed and upset. I came into this form and found many other people expressing the same issues. Does anybody know if Toyota plans to do something about it or is a recall so costly that they're going to try to ignore it and deal with each customer on a one-on-one basis?

Your complaints are unfortunately common with this new truck. Come join us in the Third Gen Forum and welcome!

I did test drive it but keep in mind that the only experience I've ever had with a Toyota or a truck for that matter was the T100 which was already six years old. I wasn't sure if the difference is I was feeling was simply because of newer technology, a newer vehicle that hadn't been broken in while yet, etc... I don't know an awful lot about vehicles so I didn't really feel confident that what I was feeling was actually a problem. Then a friend of mine called me and told me a scenario that his nephew had with his new 2016 Tacoma SR5 exact same model that I bought and the hell he went through trying to get the dealership to either fix it or give him another vehicle. That's when I decided to come in here and look and see if others had been experiencing the same thing. Granted it would have been much smarter for me to do this research before actually purchasing the vehicle, but almost like I was when I was a teenager, I wanted it so bad I didn't want it to have any issues. I'm almost 60 years old so one would think I would have learned by now.

Toyota recently released a software update for the Transmission/shift feeling improvements. Overall is does improve the way the truck drives but I wouldn't go to the length of calling it a "World of Difference"... it does make it more livable however. Just one man's opinion/experience...
