2002 2.7 4wd auto trans standard cab here.

I need to replace my drive shaft... the rear u-joint is badly worn and it's not serviceable.

So, I've been searching around for an aftermarket drive shaft and can't find any that say they're a perfect fit for the truck. This one from Dorman says "standard trans" in the details and then in the specifications it says its for manual and auto. All of the parts finders say that this drive shaft isn't a perfect match for my truck.

My question is whether theres a difference between drive shafts on the standard and auto tranny trucks. Either length or bolt spacing at the transmission flange... Has anybody used this drive shaft? Thanks in advance!

Friend of mine got a drive shaft with "unserviceable" u-joints fixed at a drive shaft shop for much less than a new drive shaft.

Yeah that's a good idea too. I might take it to a shop that I found locally. I figured its "unserviceable" because the rear u-joint doesn't have snap rings

It may not be serviceable(no zerk fitting to grease it) but the u-joint should be replaceable. If it's an OEM shaft and the splines are in good shape, then I would definitely keep it and just replace the u-joint.

Friend of mine had a datsun station wagon (long ago) with a driveshaft with non-replacable u-joints (according to the factory). Dealer said he had to buy a new drive shaft. Drive shaft shop replaced them no problem. Cost a lot less than a new drive shaft.

Okay cool! I'll definitely take it over there then. Might as well bring it and see what the pros think.

There is a grease fitting, but it looks like the u-joint is pressed in there permanently. Thats what a mechanic buddy of mine told me too, but he's not an expert on driveshafts so who knows.

    Thanks a lot fellas
