One thing that keeps bothering me about this generation tacoma is the lack of adjustable seats. My Camry from 2005 has power 8 way adjustable seats with lumbar support and it is a base model and that got me thinking. Toyota isn't too imaginative so there has to be some Toyota model that uses the same seat bolt pattern into the floor as the Tacoma for an easy swap.
If not, how plausible would it be to grind off the bottom rails of the seats and replace them with a power seat from say a 4runner, Camry, Avalon, Highlander. Power would be easy enough to run so the hardest part would be finding a seat that has it's rails the same width apart as a Tacoma.
Do you all think it would be worth the work?

it could work but its not advised. if toyota could engineer a power seat, they would. even the LTD doesn't have one.

^Toyota can obviously engineer a power seat. Toyota chose not to, to keep the build cost and weight low.
You wouldn't grind off the bottom rails of the seats. If the mounting holes don't line up, it would be easier to fabricate steel plates/strips to offset the holes.

You may also need adapt the wiring for the "occupant-classification" weight sensors (for airbag force deployment) and side airbags.

In 2 of my last 4 cars, all BMW, 2 had electric adjustable seats, 2 had manual simple seats. Guess which ones worked flawlessly and guess which ones needed thousands to keep maintained and working.

    I'll stick with basic seats.

There are airbags in the seat, it's strongly advised to not install another seat with an air bag, or one without.

They absolutely could. They chose to not do it. They sell plenty without the added expense.

Eh, plenty of old cars with power seats that still work fine. I recently sold a 1995 Caprice Wagon with 220,000 miles on it. Power seats really worked flawlessly.

Toyota chooses to cheap out on the seats... people would pay the option for a power seat.. I don't understand why they decide not even to put it on an option list.

Probably because their market research dictates that.

I don't have hard facts, but it seems like most trucks are usually not shared and driven by one person only.

the dummy died in the crash test when they lifted the seat any higher! so they figured if all u can do is to slide the seat on the rail u dont need the auto option!
