Happy to be joining the forum, but it's not a good day. Just learned my 1995 4cyl 2.7L blew the head gasket at 242,000 miles. The truck has only a little bit of rust and is mechanically sound otherwise. After some recent cooling issues and newly replaced radiator, I'm thinking it would be best to put a new engine in.

This is my first Tacoma, so any advice on where to shop for a rebuilt 3rz fe engine would be much appreciated. Are there any club members on here from the North Puget Sound area that know of a mechanic that specializes in Tacomas?

    Thanks,
    Samantha from Bellingham, WA

Not familiar with where to get a new engine but I'm sure someone else on here can help point you in the right direction. So, here's a free bump back to the top of the forum :D

242,000 miles is a good run but I would have expected it to last longer, Toyota 4 bangers are notoriously reliable little engines. Sorry to hear about yours, hope you get it up and running again soon! Welcome to TW

Thanks for the bump, Ryan, much appreciated. Yeah, I'm bummed about the early death, but hopeful that someone here can give me a lead.

Get a quote, from a reputable shop, for replacing the head gasket. If there is no damage to the block or rings, it may not cost more than $2k.
