I just Called 4Wheel Parts and found out that 17" wheels work best for a 3" lift.

That just mean your rims are not the correct offset and/or backspacing for a 6-lug Tacoma application.

Tried to do my homework before bugging you guys. Everyone had great input on this one. I figured 16" were okay but the guy was preaching that spacers were wrong and 17" were the way to go.

The brake calipers/ rotors are larger on the 05+'s With the 6" drop bracket kits the new knuckle that is installed is why they recommend the 17".

There was a very good thread on TTORA that had the 16" wheels that would work and wouldnt with the second gens.

If you check Mickey Thompson's website, they say the wheels fit. Trust me, I've been through this first hand.

I'm within the proper range for offset and BS but the inside of the wheel wraps in just slightly faster than other wheels and nicks the edge of the caliper. There are other people running the same offset and BS with different aftermarket wheels and they do not having rubbing issues like I do. Also, there are 3 different p/n's for the calipers on Tacomas from 2005+. I know because when I bought my new caliper the parts guy wanted my VIN just to make sure he sent me the correct caliper.

Bottom line, there's more to it than simply offset, BS, lug count, wheel diameter, wheel width, and tire size with our trucks. Every wheel has a different geometry from the hub interface to the rim of the wheel. If this transition is too aggressive you can hit the side of the caliper, regardless if you're running 16" or 17" wheels. The hub centric wheel spacers fixed my caliper problems but made tire rubbing worse when turning the steering wheel past 120 degrees so I trimmed some plastic, boxed and welded the cab mounts, had a custom alignment to move the wheels forward ~1" and added an aftermarket front bumper to accomodate the new wheel location. Now I run the wheels I want and I have not rubbed under full articulation (full lock and compressed) as of yet.

I believe you should buy the wheels you want to run and take the time and effort to make them fit your truck!!!

I ended up calling 4 Wheel Parts back and going through everything I learned on this thread. You make several good points on your post and in my second call the sales guy was much more knowledgeable and brought up the same issues. I plan to take the truck down there to get everything fit correctly rather than buy online and hope for the best.

Waaaiiiit.... you just figured out they don't know what they are talking about and you are going to take your truck there anyway? I don't think I'd want Special Fred and his toolbox anywhere close to me  I'm not advocating one shop over the other, but man, it sounds a bit dodgy.

Thanks for clarifying. Most aftermarket manufacturers test parts on the 1st year on new vehicle models. While automakers will have design changes through subsequent years for the same model vehicle. It is costly for aftermarket manufacturers to keep up.
