Given the 5k maintenance for regular engine oil, do you ever push synthetic to 10k between changes in your V6?

I've heard that you can, but for safe measures I personally stick with the 5k interval

I would just stick with 5k changes. You need to rotate the tires every 5k anyways so that gives you something to do while the oil is draining plus it gives you the chance to look everything over.

"it gives you the chance to look everything over." I like this. I don't understand these ridiculous OCI unless you trade every 3 yrs.

Is the filter rated for 10k?

I change both every 5k, with Mobil 1.

Only any independent lab test will answer your question correctly. Because it will determine the health of your engine, the additives in your oil of choice, and tell you the remaining life/mileage you can safely expect.

That said, I know many who have made this effort and been shocked to find that both time and mileage remaining were much greater than they would have expected.

Give it a try. Everything else is speculation.

I change the oil (Mobil 1 EP) at 10k but change the OEM filter every 5K then top off with half a quart.

There's a member here who would go up to 14K miles on Mobil 1 EP and a larger after market filter who has over 400K miles on his truck. I believe QYNLA is his user name.

    Same as everybody else...
Oil is cheaper than metal...I change mine every 5k. I use either Mobil1 or QS Ultimate Durability with a OEM filter, usually takes me about 40 minutes cause I'm old and I kinda look stuff over under the hood and under the truck. Cost me less than 32 bucks, pretty cheap insurance I think.

Mechanic friend of mine heard I was doing 10-12K on my T100 (which I did, and it now has 260K) and said that if I went past the 6 months that was bad juju. He thought time was more important than miles. Something about the chemistry or PH of the oil changing.

I kind of go by that. But I'll go to 8 months looking for a good time to do it (weather often). I think if I needed to drive 10K in a 6 month period for some reason, I'd be cool with keeping an eye on the level and then ditching that oil at 6 months. But if 10K means a year or more, I'd say no.

Mobil 1 at 7500 for me, seems like a reasonable interval with synthetic.

I don't think there is a filter that is any good past 7500 and unless U investigate and spend the $$ 5000 is about it.

I've gone 10,000 miles on Mobile 1 and changing only the filter every 5000 for years on every vehicle I've owned. I have 172,000 on the Tacoma and 95,000 on the Honda. The only time I add oil is to top it off after the filter change. Actually 10,000 is being conservative. You can probably be safe for 15,000

10k on Mobil 1 and Toyota filter. I really need to get a sample and send it off to Blackstone labs, I already have the kits.

10k is not out of line. As stated an oil analysis would tell for sure. 7.5k seems a reasonable compromise. Any top notch filter will do 10k, such as Fram Ultra or purolator Pure One or Bosch Premium etc. Go over to
    bobistheoilguy.com and read up.

Search here for filter comparisons, Chris4x4 has cut open several of them.

I've been changing my oil twice a year ( May 1 and November 1) regardless of miles since the weather is nice and it's right before the extreme seasons. I've used synthetic for the past 4 years and every time I change it, the oil looks pretty clear as if it was just put in.

I've been debating going once a year oil changes, but we'll see. I guess with the fumoto valve it isn't really a chore since it's a 20 minute job with zero cleanup.

2 times a year, and the oil looks clear..... How many miles? This is hard to believe unless you don't drive it much. My oil comes out pretty dark at 10k miles.
