    You look funny :p
jk, I like the look of double much better, but I already have GPS and I don't see a time when I'll be sitting in my truck watching DVD's verry often, so I don't think I should spend an extra few hundred $$

currently only 3 units i know of are offered. the eclipse cd7200, alpine 9887 and pioneer premier deh-880prs. these are current U.S. models. there is a bad boy pioneer from japan model thats puts these units to shame. if you go older mostly alpine units are desired.

i own an alpine 9887. not rated the best(some have complained of its bass output from the sub channel) but i picked it for ease of use with the ipod. 80 gigs of music when driving to work and burr brown dac's for tuning and showing cd's. pioneer's and eclipse's ipod solution sucks compared to alpine.

it's kind of sad that we are more interested in the number of features we can squeeze into a box, rather then doing one thing well-which for me is sound quality.

Double din units can sound great but to get 3 way active and time alignment you need to add a processor.

Alpines Double Din's have the best processing (in regards to crossover slopes, crossover point adjustment, time alignment) IF, you get one of their multimedia amps that have the built in processor that interfaces with the screen for control.

Kenwood's Double Din units, believe it are not, are widely considered to have the best sounding pre-amp output section of all of them. JVC equally as well (they are produced by Kenwood anyway).

The best pure Sound Quality based single din headunit in the US right now is the Pioneer DEH-P800PRS (The 88PRS that was previously mentioned is last years model). Alpine had the F1 Status system, but they quit making them.

Pioneer is exprected to release the DEX-P99PRS unit in the US this year, and it should be announced at CES. This is the baddest dude on the planet currently. Expected retail around $1200.

Yup, those are the 3 best single DIN's unless you want that $1500 Pioneer deck from overseas like mentioned, or well over a $1000 for an older Denon Z1 or Clarion 9255. My Eclipse 7200 is on the way, but the Pioneer 880 has been discontinued since they are doing away with the Premier line.

BTW, I also read over on the diyma forums to get full 5V output from the sub channel on the Alpine, you have to crank the sub level all the way up. FWIW anyway.

Double Dins are where its at. The angle of the screen after install is perfect, and looks great compared to the singles.. IMO of course.

I'm with rscecil007. coreyj, and itsmyturn on this one.

Single din's all the way!! :D

Reasoning being i'm looking for sound quality and comparably double dins don't come in the variety that are as capable as alpine single dins like the 9887.
I'm looking for more than a front and rear output, reasonable control over my tuning, and sound quality so i find single din the best option. Plus how often do you really watch movies in your taco?

Probably a good thing, seeing as how Eclipse/Fujitsu sent out a press release today stating they will no longer be doing anything in the aftermarket audio realm, just OEM only from now on.

With that and the 880 gone, that doesnt' leave much for SQ heads wanting a single din that is somewhat affordable.

I think the double dins look great, but not the double din cd player/stereo`s and my wife doesn`t want dvd player in her truck. Plus I rally want the system in her truck to be all about good sound.

Aside from the double din's not being focused on super high sound quality and tweakability, the other catch is that most double din's don't have a detachable face or any kind of security, and that's a big priority for many people.

I know I park in places occasionally where a double din would just scream "STEAL ME." At least most of the single dins you can pop the face off for a bit of security. But if a thief wants it, he'll get it or screw it up trying.

    Double or nothing baby!

I had a single din before. But removing the faceplate became more of an inconvenience to me. So I got the double din and after my tint ticket, I tinted my windows darker. Now, you can't see in at night. During the day, all you see is a black void where my radio is.

    [IMG] [IMG]

If people can't see what they're taking, there's a good chance they won't risk it. ;)
