Stange 4WD disengagement

    I do! Most times I'm under 5 mph and sometimes have shifted into neutral before operating the transfer case. Even then I'll still sometimes get it.

    Your post did make me think about when I'm getting it though! I'll frequently get the clunk after going up a steep hill around home. I need 4x4 sometimes just to get up the hill without spinning a lot if conditions are right.

    I thought about it and I'll typically shift not far after getting to the top. I usually am in a slow roll and have got the clunk whether in neutral or just letting the engine idle the truck along.


    Thinking back, every time I've ran for miles on loose gravel forest road I've never had the clunk coming out of 4x4.
