Does this look used?

So I got my 5100's today. Front and rear new for $182 Canadian off some dude on kijiji in Edmonton. Totally not complaining but I saw this

Funny enough only on one side of the rear shocks. I'm thinking maybe buddy tried to install and gave up? Honestly don't know. Only wanted to know if I need to replace the rubber on it or if it's just cosmetic. Rubber has a 1/16" chunk missing from the right side

I would venture to guess no not used, yes show signs of being out of the box for some prolonged time.

 

Yeah he said he had them for like 5 years sitting. Come to think of it..... Would that time sitting cause any issues?

 

I personally doubt it would cause anything noticeable.

 

Check the rear shock piston arm. The end is essentially an Allen head socket. If it's stripped at all it's been installed. The socket fills up with road debris. When you try to remove the shock and forget to clean it out it strips easily. Ask me how I know.

 

Don't worry about the rubber chunk missing. Although that was probably from install. I had to hammer in my rear shocks because the mount was a hair narrow and I messed up the rubber a little bit. If that happens to you, just bend the mount a hair wider.

 

Make sure before you install you turn that spring perch around...
