He's been in upper management for almost 40 years....but has been at nearly 20 different clubs. His "skill" is as what is known in our world as a "turn around man". He comes in to a country club that has financial problems and rewrites the budget, creates a "plan" and puts it back on track. He's actually good at that. Great "numbers guy".....Just an absolute jack ass......He's from a wealthy family. Both sets of grandparents are wealthy. His parents are wealthy. His wife is a multi-millionaire.....He doesn't do what he does for the money. He does it to be able to put himself in a position where he can put people under his thumb. It's all about power and control.

His problem is, he's never ran into anyone quite like me:rolleyes: I stand up to him and refuse to let him do a beat down on my people. Last year about this time, he was trying to fire me. We have just over 400 members. I had 330 of them standing outside the board meeting on the day he was going to announce my dismissal. He was told I would still be there when no one could even remember his name.....He got the message.

We have 122 full time employees. I have 27 years tenure. Next closest is 17 years. After you go 5 deep into our seniority list, highest is 3-1/2 years. The membership knows me and trust's me. I have keys to over 100 of their homes.....I watch their houses when they're out of town.....No one with just 16 months here is going to push me out of the way.....

I had a run in with someone like this. Was even worse he had a flat top haircut like a relative of mine. That said relative tried to sabotage my budding relationship with my FIL and wife. I hated that man forever after that. So seeing this guy brought back real bad memories before he even open his mouth. A numbers man sees you only as a number. A low life POS. They separate themselves from reality. But he was a chicken shit. He would get someone else to fire people. These people were hard workers and experienced. He started to watch me work one day. After about 5 min I threw down my tools and walked over to him. Stood right in his face and asked what his problem was. I never moved , never blinked. He stepped back a little, I stepped forward. I asked what he wanted. Told him he was interfering with work and putting customers lives in danger. I cannot stand to be watched while I work like that.
People like that are a cancer. They destroy anything and everything they are around. A few months later he was gone. Don't know why or care.
I know exactly what you are going through. But being around him long enough you have his number.
Just do exactly what you feel is right. With the support you have behind you,you can keep him in check.

This asshat has taken a shaky financial situation and put us in a much better position. However, he's done that at the expense of alienating all of the employees and most of the membership. The board of directors sees things through rose colored glass'. They look good because of the vastly improved financial situation, AND they're the guys who hired ol' asshat. They won't take steps to reign him in because it would make them look partly to blame. But....The last Sunday in September, we have an election. The face of the executive committee (Prez/vice prez/treasurer/secretary) change, as well as half the board. The remaining 6 board members are finishing their first term. They have nothing to do with hiring the current Manager. I've been told the 6 new board members will be in favor of cutting him loose, along with 4 of the existing 6. New Exec comm. will be selected from new board members. Where's that take us? Looks like the first day of October will be his LAST day.

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

He is what we call an ax man, no person skills just there to be the bad guy. I have seen them many times. Like you said he will be gone soon. The corporate world is filled with higher-ups that look at the workers under a microscope, never realizing it is their peers, pulling down the big bucks, that are the issue.
I have 29 years of corporate bs stories. But you have been there too.

Well, The fishing sucks around here during the Summer doldrums, so...why let a good clamming tide go to waste?
We went out to the clamming grounds early to catch an 8:30 low tide. Big line of storms coming in this afternoon.
Nice morning and again nobody around. Amazing. 20 years ago there would be 20 boats in the area.

There's not a lot of things to like in this state or area anymore. Clamming is one of the few things left.

So now it's May! Over 2.5 inches of rain since midnight with more on the way. Not complaining.

    Morning everyone.

I won't bother to quote, but I will say that I would rather be remembered as the guy who was fair and respective to the people in my life and helped people succeed, rather then being remembered as the guy who only cared about the bottom line with no respect for anyone standing in his way.

Just saying, my team is important to me, and if they can all go home at night and pay their mortgages and put food on their tables, then I sleep very well every night!

Same here on the west coast. Salmon fishing just isn't the same. I don't bother anymore, moved on to the lakes, prefer my float tube anyway.
