Hi, I currently have a Tuff Stuff RTT Mounted on a rack that I made. For the winter i normally put my truck Topper back on to fight the elements here in Colorado. I am finding that I miss my Topper even in the summer.

    Rack with RTT:

    Truck with Topper:

Question is mounting on the topper directly (building a rack up there) or build something like this so no weight is on the topper...?

Any Input would be really appreciated on how what and why...

Call the manufacturer and ask them what the weight capacity is for your topper. Mine was like 175 dynamic. Also allot of guys have the prinsu rack (http://www.prinsudesignstudio.com/) which from what I hear does a good job at spreading out the weight. It can been done and I will do it sometime here soon!

i do it on mine with zero issues. I have had over 600 LBS in the tent with no cracks or stress on the topper.

I also use a prinsu Rack

racks are pretty cool just seem fairly expensive... i could build one for 1/2 that price easy... the only issue would be that it sticks out some and could get caught on tree's and whatnot

Yes they are. However, this thread tries to aliviate that: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ermbs-d-i-y-rack-system-build.433500/

As far as getting caught on branches and what not, I know several people here that have them and I can't recall anyone ever mentioning that.
