2011 Tacoma. Never had the tsb done on the rear springs. Now I'm gonna try to get new springs to replace my 3 leafs through this recall. Are the springs they put on with this recall the same as the tsb springs.

If your asking about height differences between the new ones, and what you have now, I can say my before, and after measurements were the exact same going from my original stock '05 2+1 leafs to the current 3+1 replacement springs. I have read for years that the old "TSB" leafs provided 1" of lift over the original stock springs. The current batch, not so much.

There's a few posts that reference this. You can search for it, there's PDFs that give the information. The recall springs are 3+1 like the TSB springs, however the recall notices mention a different leaf pack part number for trucks that have the "harsh ride" kit installed, which is what Toyota called the TSB fix.

The harsh ride was because the original springs were riding on the bumpstops all that time I believe, thus a stronger spring was installed to raise the truck. They would lift a truck that wasn't heavily loaded, it wasn't designed as a lift spring as such. The stronger spring was to maintain the factory ride height with presumably a commercial truck or truck with a heavy camper or something.

I don't know if anyone has figured out if the actual recall springs packs used in the two parts kits are the same or not, IOW if the spring rates are actually different between the new springs for regular and harsh ride (and Canadian/Mexican-spec) trucks. It's not unheard that Toyota would use the same part with two different part numbers. That happens for various reasons, sourcing, superseding in catalogs, etc.

If you have TSB springs now you should make sure the dealer orders the right kit. He probably will get the standard kit the instructions call for, which may not be what you want.
