I looking to put a small battery (7A security style) in one of my bed storage compartments to power some canopy lights, but not sure how to recharge it. I don't have a solar setup yet, so I'm looking to charge from the truck.

Is there a way to wire a charge controller/maintainer from the alternator? I'd like to remove my main battery from the system to avoid unknowingly killing it.

Put it on a relay controlled circuit. Have te control side of the relay powered by a circuit that is on with ign only.

Ah, that's perfect. I hadn't thought of that route.
