BUT 4.30 might be better on a 2016 with larger tires. Not sure what size tire would balance out to a 4.30 from a 3.9

Fair enough, now the question is whether you will be able to get a factory upgrade/change.

This is kinda how these type of things work out. Come 2018 im sure the 2017 owners will have something to bitch about!

Yeah this will only serve to hurt not help 2016 resale value albeit probably very minor impact. Knowledgable / Informed buyers however will definitely be taking that into consideration. Downside of buying 1st year I guess...

Not usually the case with Tacoma, changes are small within gens year to year, minor added content, the power slider fine, but the diff, that's a big change.

Which begs the question, was this a large enough engineering flub that the 2016 owner will be able to benefit?

My guess is tacoma design team was already on the fence as to which gear ratio to choose when working the 2016 configuration. For whatever reason they settled on the 3.90 initially...then The complaints of low end torque lacking and transmission feeling /drivability issues was all they needed to push them over the edge to the 4.30.

Maybe Toyota of the past, Toyota of today could give two sh*ts, they already sold you the truck, they wont do crap about it. I'll just wait 2 years just before my warranty is up and then push the diff whine by then hopefully 3.9's wont be manufactured or sourced and they'll replace with the 4.3, but that's a lot of what ifs and a lot of faith in Toyota.

What i'm saying is: will there be a chance that the 2016 owner can get the gear change on toyota's dime.

It's definitely flubbed. Just a question of whether it's the gear ratio or the MPG line. To me, it looks like they just flip-flopped the Gear ratios. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
