Seeing in another thread Toyota is changing the gearing for MT's and AT's in the 2017's. Wondering if this is legit as I do not think I have ever seen a manufacturer make this sort of change 1 model year in. I suppose it could be from all of the criticisms the auto has got.

If true, this could be a good thing for the auto tranny 3rd gens (3.9 to 4.3).

I can tell you this though, Toyota would have to do more than just swap the axle ratios on the MT trucks!

Man, 1st and especially reverse would be too high with a re-gear to 3.9!

A slight drop in RPM (200-400 RPM) at highway speeds in 6th should be good for MPGs without sacrificing too much power.

Yeah they could have the manual and automatic gearing swapped on accident in this .pdf. Actually would make sense to use this gear combo with the 3.5 which makes lower low-end torque than the 4.0.

I strongly feel it is a misprint. Why on earth would they flip it one year in. I can see them possibly going to 4.3 across the board but I'd be asking some questions if one year in they made that big of a change.

Either way, if they went to 4.3 for the autos, man I'd feel bad for the 2016 auto owners. And if they went to 3.9 for the manual owners, I'd sure be glad I got a 2016.

Why would you create another thread to discuss this? Go to that thread and talk about it. You just wanted to see your name at the top of the list?
