Hi, All. So after being a bonehead and draining the trans fluid out of the pan yesterday (sorry, but that looks like every oil pan I've ever worked with...), I decided not to be outdone by my truck. Two simple things I want to do: First, scrape up my slime trail and replace the trans fluid. I've looked at all the pics, even gone on YouTube, and I just am not clear on where the refill plug is. Before I do something else stupid, could someone point me to a clear image of the 24 mm nut I'm looking for? Second, still need to change the oil. Great thread on this, but the drain plug under the filter appears to be missing something....like, an actual plug on the drain tube. It's a 2011 v6 4.0 that I bought used with 42k miles, so at least if the plug's missing, I didn't do it! :)

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I understand you have the 5-speed automatic? The transmission fill plug is on the right side (passenger side) of the housing, toward the rear: http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old...6toyrm/06toypdf/06rmsrc/rm2006ta/02800210.pdf
It's all the way up in the floorpan transmission tunnel and requires a 24mm shallow socket (24mm deep wouldn't fit). Note: unlike other fill plugs in the truck, this plug uses a rubber O-ring instead of metal crush washer. Be careful not to tear the O-ring.

Looks like the oil filter housing drain boot is missing. No harm. Just make sure you wipe it down thoroughly so oil doesn't continue to drip.

Thanks, yes, 5 speed automatic. Is this it (it was one of the three I was looking at)?

    ^Yep, that's it.

Are you able to measure how much fluid came out? If so, put an equal amount of Toyota WS fluid back in. Otherwise the fluid level check procedure is a bit involved, as described in the service manual page.

Yay! It's a long, sad tale, but I lost about four quarts. I've reviewed the thread for checking the level about five times now, so I'm as good to go on that as I'll ever be. Worst case scenario I get a tow to my mechanic, but I'm embarrassed so am hoping it doesn't come to that.

6 Speed manual? No. Drain it, then refill it using the fill hole. As soon as lube starts to come out the fill hole, you're done. I hope you aren't replacing your trans fluid in a 2016...

Sorry. I have a 2016 6 speed automatic transmission. Is the procedure the same to check the fluid level as the 2nd generation 5 speed automatic transmission.

Permanently attach a 3-4' long piece of 5/16"ID fuel line to the drain nipple, run it down past skid plate, and cap it off with a plug. Drain filter oil into pan on floor... makes the oil change a lot easier and no mess.
