Getting out a few rifles that I need to apply some spar urethane to and figured I'd try getting a picture of them. I just couldn't figure out how to take a picture without glare off the wood. This is the best I could get.

Anyway, even though I have several stainless/synthetics I still prefer old school rifles. They all get hunted and have several battle scars to prove it.

Any other old guys like me who prefer blued/wood to black/plastic?

Me for one. I HATE a black plastic stock. I could live with a laminated (need to order one now for my .260 Model 7 Remington) or maybe one of those Duratouch camo stocks Browning makes. Held a couple of those and really like the feel of it. Hate the hollow, light feel of many factory synthetic stocks though.

Would you be so kind as to list those guns and calibers? Love the Mannlicher stock on the first one and I'm guessing that's an M1 Garand on the far right?

Bolt release (?) identifies the one in the middle but I don't have one of that brand so don't recognize it.

I updated the OP to include description.

I know what you mean about plastic stocks. I really dislike injection molded plastic. Feels and sounds bad. There are a lot of great synthetic stocks out there that are not injection molded plastic, but they do cost more. To me they are worth the extra. In aftermarket stocks, I prefer McMillans, but there are several good brands. I have two M7s with McMillan stocks. They are lighter and feel much better than the factory plastic. I have another M7 that still has it's factory plastic stock that will someday be replaced as well. I like McMillan because I can get just about any design of stock for any rifle I want. I prefer the Sako Hunter style stock and they will make that for any rifle. They can make just about any style stock you prefer to fit whatever you have.

Nice guns! You too bucktales :)

Don't have any pics of my rifles but need to take some. Have more than a few shotguns that are walnut and blued steel. Even my waterfowl gun is walnut and blue. Taking a picture of high gloss wood in sunlight is an art I haven't mastered yet. But need to sometime. Don't have family pictures so will do a few of ones that I have individually.

American Black Walnut first of course, the European walnut will have to wait in line as it should.

Almost done refinishing my 1949 37 field grade 16 ga. Under that 75 year old finish was hidden some decent wood that cried set me free. This is my ruff grouse gun.

Post war Marlin Model 90 double trigger. In 16 Ga. of course
    [IMG]

Upper Sandusky 12 ga. 37 this is my duck gun with extra bbl. With AAA wood

European Walnut can play now. FAIR (I. Rizzini) NEA 500 in 16 ga. with 28" and 30" bbls.

Joel Etchen custom combo 682\687 12 ga. target gun with EELL wood

I need to get some group photos and pics of some of the others. LOVE Blued steel and walnut! Black guns, not so much.

Wood has soul. I have both and like both but to me a plastic gun is something that belongs in a toolbox. A wood gun belongs over a fireplace.
