It was a personal lease so I'm not too concerned with it being problematic.

Thanks to everyone for all the great info and insight!!

Aside form any opinions about 2G vs 3G, I bought my 2013 used for $5000 less than new back in late 2014 with 18k miles on it. For a 2013 with 36k miles that is now 3 years old, I would think that you should be able to do better than $5500 less than a comparably-equipped new 3rd gen. So in your shoes, I'd probably buy the new one based on price alone unless you have a very strong opinion on the new model.

I've had both. I enjoy the tech and interior of the 3rd gen. I have no complaints about the motor or transmission. I would buy a 3rd gen.

3rd gen all the way. Nothing like a new vehicle with a warranty, plus you know how it was treated. The interior and tech stuff is worth the $5k alone imo.

I just bought a 2nd Gen, 2015 SR5 4x4 with about 25,000 miles, for about $4K less than a new 2016. Didn't drive the 2016. I figured if I went new, I'd be sucked into a TRD with sunroof and other toys, which would end up being closer to 10K more. :)

    all tore up already
3 years and 36k of use for a 5500 savings? seems like a no brainer to me. thats about 20% savings off msrp. theres no chance you could do a 3 year lease with 80% residual, so price seems high to me. but then again i know used tacomas command crazy money so.... up to you?

I was looking at year or two old 2nd gen's with low miles originally, probably could of haggled them down more then was able on the new one I settled on but in the end I paid about the same difference for new TRD Sport, have no regrets about it.

I faced an identical choice earlier this year - the decision took all of five minutes, and I haven't regretted it once since.

Had a '12 sport manual, now a '16 OR auto. I personally like the '16 better, and '17's are just starting to show up at dealers. You might be able to swing a deal on a '16 that is sitting on the lot.
