I've had my Tacoma 4x4 dual cab, short box, manual transmission now for three weeks and have driven it 3500 kms (~2200 miles).

    Overall impressions?

It rides nicer than I expected. Coming from a 2008 Ranger 4x4 --- I suppose that was to be expected.

The manual transmission is geared well (IMO) for quick acceleration for passing or from a dead stop. It shifts easily --- other than 2nd to 3rd which I sometimes misshift when doing it quickly. If I just gently push it it flows easily into the 3rd gear position. Passing in 6th gear usually doesn't necessitate having to drop a gear.

I'm 6'3" and have ample headroom and leg room. In fact, I don't have the seat even close to being all the way back.

I bought a hood bug deflector --- in hindsight I probably don't need one. I thought it would be prudent for preventing stone chips but the deflector doesn't really protect that much considering the squareness of the front grill. But it looks cool. Lol.

I wish Toyota would change the truck's plastic bed so that it wasn't akin to a greased baking pan. Everything slides around too easily! I bought a rubber bed mat today. Seems like a waste of $$ putting a bed mat in a truck bed that has a plastic liner.

Driving on the highway at 105 km/h (~62 mph) under conditions with no wind gave me a trip fuel gauge reading of 9.8 L/per 100 km a few times. I'm happy with that. Combined town and highway driving is usually getting me between 11 - 12 L/100 km. Accelerating carefully provides a much better fuel gauge reading.

Will I experience problems in the future with it? Hopefully not.

I will admit I'm happier with it than I expected.

Yeah --- a few times I have and it was 11 to 11.5 or so. Better than I expected. But it seems to be best between 85-105 km/h. Surprise, surprise. Lol.

I actually had it up to 150 km/h the other day for a km or so as I came off an on-ramp at 6 am wth no traffic around. It was still accelerating quickly and got up there effortlessly. I was curious as to how much power to actually had. First and last time it'll be going that fast. Lol.
