A Toyota technician told me that TRD markets the CAI as a racing part ONLY and that the combination of TRD CAI & SC is used off road extensively and without mechanical issues. The "Racing only" has something to do with CARB standards and other licensing issues dealing with air quality. I, and almost everyone I know runs CAI on our diesels without issue, why not on gas burners?[IMG][/IMG]

With your post,rossk35's and others,I may have to reconsider and get one.
I always was curious as to the air to fuel numbers and Rossk35 provided some good numbers.:)

I suppose I should install an AFR gauge to be sure of what is going on. Actually not a bad idea since I'm always looking for some new addition to the truck. I currently monitor trans temp & EGT with digital gauges in the pillar so I'll have to figure out a place for the gauge.

On a different topic, I finally found an expedition bumper for my Tacoma and will be installing it within the new few weeks. It's an all-aluminum model from Aluminess Products in Santee, CA. Looks perfect for my needs off road.

With the different ECU reflash for the '09 SC because of the cut back on truck's fuel consumption to compensate for the new fuel and emissions law,do you think those numbers would be the same on the '09?
These trucks always ran rich.I don't know if they do now because of the CAFE laws manufacturers have to meet and the average MPG number that gets higher and higher as years go by.
Anybody got any numbers with an '09?

With the above in mind I put my truck through three runs on a dyno today. I have the TRD supercharger AND the TRD CAI. All three runs held an AFR of 10 through the entire rpm range (actually slightly rich). Superimposing the three runs onto the same graph resulted in one line, perfect match every time. Given that an AFR above 12 is considered lean I'm inclined to have serious doubts about what was told to "OLDGEZR".

That is good news actually. It simply backs up my opinion that the dealership doesnt always have the answers. Then again, who knows. They may be simply repeating what they were told from TRD without any facts or testing themselves. It happens. I guess I need to check with other dealers to see if i get the same response on that install combo.

If everyone simply followed all the advice/guidance that they have been given throughout history then we wouldnt have half the stuff available that we do today. I appreciate you guys weighing in and challenging what that dealership had told me that this could not be done. I hope to push forward with my own install and make this happen soon.

TIA

Well, the numbers are good.I may add an TRD CAI after my supercharger problems are taken care of or maybe I'll chicken out.:D.
I'm glad there wasn't a CAI installed when I was at the dealer when my SC started to act up.They would have blamed the CAI.
The CAI should be removed before any visit to the dealer for service if you have a SC.

I was told the Tacoma reflash would not accomodate the TRD CAI, but the FJ code had been rewritten for the TRD CAI. The dealer who did my reflash told me it would be OK, not to worry. Why would TRD make the new code for the FJ and not the Tacoma?

That being said, I've had the TRD S/C with TRD CAI and Magnaflow muffler with turn-down for 20K miles, no problems.

Hey Joe , I'm curious , What does your engine look like with th s/c routed to the stock air filter? The picture above looks great with the trd cai. I'm wondering does it look clean with the stock intake?

I have a TRD Sc also and I did some research before i install it. The main reason TRD is telling you not put one ,,, is strictly for pollution reason. They developped the sc and the re-flush to work with the stock intake. For the CAI would require a different re-flush. By adding the CAI the sc would run a little bit leanner. But you can take care of this with some URD products. Toyota is soo affraid that the GREENS from California would sue them ,, there,, the reason they cover them self with a full page of fine printing.

Someone, here, stated that the sc is all ready running lean. Is not true. They compensate for the additional air with bigger injectors.

If you want to keep it,, unfortunately you will have to spend a little bit more $$$ to make it right. Get a gauge with AFR readings and a new re-flush from URD.

Regardless of what you may hear and (or) read, the ratio air-gas are pretty universal in our (4.0 -gas) engines. 14.5-7 x1 at iddle and the 11 sh at full trottle.
One thing that you have to aknowledge. You can add another injector there but if the ECU is not telling the other 6 existing to send more fuel to compensate for the extra air ??? You will not have the perfect mixture. A new recalibration is the the only solution or remove the CAI. Give a call to URD and you will feel better after.
Or ,, remove temporarily the CAI and see if is solving the problem before you make the call.

If they installed the SC and the fluid is spraying out ??? They must to installed a hose wrong or they may create a leak. Go back and have them fixed. Thats the reason I install it my self.
