its because Toyota already planned out what models/trims levels are made for each Tacoma/tundra way before dealers even thought of doing allocations. they build so many of each in a set time table. your exact model/trim could be built on sep-01 and it wont roll thru again until maybe a few hours/days/weeks later.

you have to remember they are supplying 1/2 the trucks for the whole usa. popular model/trims may recycle faster than others. and having special orders messes up the whole master build plan. if you insist on building one to your exact liking with the myriad of options go domestic.

    /speculation starts now :

remember, if you build a odd config, the workers making that wont see it very often you "may" see more failures since its not done the same way for 1000's of vehicles.

with Toyota repetition and familiarity with installing the same stuff over and over could mean less failures.

    /end speculation

yeah we're guessing so. look at the other's responses in the comments. But I still find it odd that they have 5 lugs for the Tundras....Maybe my understanding of Lug #s is wrong...

    I actually know this answer!!

The First Generation Tundra and our Tacoma's use(d) Six 12mm diameter wheel studs. However, the Tensile strength of 14mm diameter studs is 36% greater than the previous 12mm diameter stud. And the 5-Stud configuration used on the 2014 Tundra, has a Tensile strength increase of over 13% when compared to the First Generation 6-Stud configuration.

Also, Toyota uses "hub centric" and not "lug centric" mounting. That means that the wheel is centered on the hub, not on the lugs. The weight of the truck is transferred to the hub. The lugs provide some additional weight carrying capacity (through clamping force), but their primary purpose is to hold the wheel on, not to hold weight.

    :D

So much truth! I sent emails, sent letters and even made phone calls begging them to put a small V8 into the Tacoma. That would make it the most perfect truck. Enough power to match it's towing capacity and it'd probobly get better gas mileage too.

Meanwhile, Ford is rumored to be bringing in the straight-6 Turbo Deisel Ford Ranger "Raptor" from Australia - a full 125 more torques than the current Tacoma.
