    I have the Dakars CS047 for my rear lift....Thinking I should add these (D29XL) to them...seeing as I tow my landscaping trailer filled with equipment every day that I'm off from the firehouse....

    I should have had them pre-loaded. Damnit!!!!

    Is it a PITA to add?

    I took mine off the other day in two hrs.

    Put truck on jack stands, remove wheels, remove lower shock mounts, remove u bolts, use jack to lower axle a couple of inches. Put C clamps on leaf packs to keep it from coming apart. I used vice grips on the bottom leaf spring pin to hold it while loosening the top 14mm nut. Then add the overloaded leaf to the bottom of the pack and reverse the process. I undid U bolts one side at a time to keep the axle somewhat located. Still had to use a ratchet strap attached to the axle and frame to pull it forward a tad to line up the leafs with the axle.


    Edit: I did this on a first gen. Can't imagine a 2nd gen would be too different.

    The d29xl leaf installs in the regular part of the pack , not at the bottom , it becomes the 4th down from the top IIRC

    I decided to order mine at the same time and just add it while off the truck. Good excuse to work on the truck though :thumbsup:

    He mentions needing a longer bolt, but I reused the ones that came with the CS047R pack and I had no issues.

    I have seen that video a couple of times. That guy cracks me up. If you look at his Center pin it looks like it is cut. Geekhouse23 did you use a center pin collar?

    You guys that are taking apart your leaf packs should add a collar in case you need to use axle shims at a later date , it has nothing to do with the length of the centre pin

    I put mine in today before this weekends install on the truck.

    In the video he puts them in #3 down from top. I put mine in #4 down from top, seemed like it lined up better....

    Yea that is where I have it, I went by your original post in the thread. The guy in the video went on top of that one instead. The #3 leaf and the d29xl seemed very very similar if not identical, could it be?

    Going to revive this thread with a question.
    For anyone that has done this install...did it create a "pop" after installing?
    I have a modified (top OL leaf removed) with the AAL.
    There are anti-squeak pucks installed in the AALs as well.
    Just wondering if others have the "pop" as well.

    The pop is symptomatic of sudden movement somewhere in the rear suspension, meaning there's binding somewhere. That also means that there would be witness marks to that effect (paint rubbing off, metal gouged or scraped). I would personally check two places:
    First double check the torque on your u-bolts. U-bolt flips need copious torque way above factory specs, but even stock, I'd go güdentite (I forget what you have, Doc). It's common for the u-bolts to shift after initial install and that causes a pop, but it shouldn't be constant unless something is really loose so it's unlikely, but I'd still check.
    Second, check to make sure each individual leaf isn't shifting or rotating in the stack. They could be moving enough to bind or catch on the leaf spring on the rebound clip (had to look up what it's called, but this is the band or bracket that wraps around the leaf springs- picture below) or in the rear shackle and/or hanger. Look for worn or distorted rubber isolators in the rebound clips on the Dakar pack. This could also be a symptom of the center pin not properly torqued down (güdentite). Even if any of those components are close enough where you think they might make contact with each other, I'd look extremely close for indicators of such. It might be something as simple as tightening a random fastener or grinding down a sharp edge. Hope this helps.

    It does. I believe the pack is twisting in some way to create the pop. It is always happening when it is turning L/R on uneven surfaces.

    Yes. Exactly. I am attacking the rear this weekend to see what I can see.
    I did the front last weekend, as I thought that was the source of the issue.
    There was nothing up front that I could feel or see.
    I did retorque the U bolts (flip kit) after the initial install but haven't done them since.
    Will double check the center pins as well.
    Also going to check to front shackle bolts to be sure those are where they need to be.

    I'd take a real good look at the rebound clips. The rubber isolators on mine are all chewed up on the outer forward-most tab. Both sides are the same. Leads me to think that there's something "normal" about how they move under articulation. I actually don't have an AAL on mine but recently got a Wheelers AAL that I'll try and see if it's compatible with my setup.
    You may have to take the leafs (leaves?) out for this next part, but you can also looks at the bushing shoulders and make sure they're all intact. Even a small portion that is worn through could cause a clunk (from shifting in the shackle/forward hanger. When I did my refresh earlier this year, I used the Dobinson's bushings and they have a much thicker shoulder than the OME and Wheelers bushings. Might be an option for you is that's the case. Finger's crossed you figure it out.

    Will check the isolators. Wonder if they are replaceable. :rolleyes:
    I did the front bushings last year, after reading your posts about changing them. I think the ones that I put in were Energy Suspension.
    Will torque things to spec and then if there are still issues, I will have to pull the packs back out and go hunting.
