A rooftop tent just seems dumb to me because you would have to take it down every morning and put it back up every night if you spend a weekend out camping. If I had an expo trailer I could just set up the tent and leave it there for the weekend and still be able to use my truck

Yep same reason why I have zero interest in an RTT.

Funny Expo trailers can cost more than a regular camping trailer, just wish my regular trailer was 1K LBS less for towing into mountains.

The 10 min to pack up isn't a big deal, @Tacoma SS you have to do this now anyway right plus you can transfer to a trailer in the future

You ain't wrong - but it also depends on how one camps. I generally don't squat on a site for 3-4 days at a time. Always moving. And the setup/takedown is faster than any ground-based tent.

I do a lot of camping at campgrounds and state parks where we stay put for the entire weekend. But I still end up having to drive to the marina or the lake or the grocery store and things like that. So it would be nice not to have to take down and put up the tent every time I want to go somewhere

Yeah, I prefer base camp type camping but do see the advantage of a rooftop tent has when it comes to rugged overlanding where trailers are more of a hinderance

Come on, the trailer has brakes, your truck doesn't. Together they solve that issue.
