    I guess I get a do-over now Baja Roof Rack, SOS Concepts Bed Bars, Tepui RTT,SOS Concepts Streamline, (mostly)Keeping it washed
    We made a pvc rack for now (we REALLY need a 4 yak trailer.....that will be one day!!).....I think it was less than 100.00....and we had a 13 ft yak, 10ft yak and a 10 ft sup on it......

    The bottom is just 2 x 4s that are on edge between the wheel wells and tight front to the tailgate. The front uprights are set rearward to allow for my rolled up tonneau cover. All four uprights are on top of the frame. They then have triangle plywood pieces sandwiched on each side. I also have small plywood wedges on top of the frame in the front two corners. The crossbars sit on top of the uprights in a notch with two bolts holding each end. I figured I could make interchangable crossbars for hauling canoes. The canoe bow hits the cab so to haul them I need a higher crossbar. I can put this rack in and take it out easily.
    For holding the thing down in the bed, I replaced the front bed bolts with d hooks as per the fix on this site. I use ratchets straps to hold it but you could use the screw type tunbuckle things to and make your attachments lower on the uprights.

    In this pic I was still using the rail hooks for holding it down. I now have d hooks in the front of the bed for holding it down.

    I have a four place kayak trailer but I definitely prefer using the rack over the trailer. It is easier to park, travel, etc.

    I use a Boonedox. It is made out of aluminum, so no rust when I'm fishing in salt water. Also, the design keeps you from bottoming out. I use bicycle LED lights to keep things legal at night. boonedox.jpg boonedox 2.jpg

    Elwud… Way too long for me! My kayaks are 17 footers. Actualy, the next rack I make will extend over the cab. This will put the kayak centered over the vehicle.

    Anyone try the cheap bed racks from Amazon? They are like $100 and rated for 500lbs. Quite a few have good reviews too.

    How heavy are these kayaks? Seems like they would be awful heavy to be loading on top of a truck by yourself for a Sunday morning fishing trip. I have never owned one, but am interested in getting one set up for single man lake fishing. How do u load without scratching the truck?
