I thought about plasti-dipping the emblems once.
Just bought a 3rd gen. It's my first truck and I have absolutely no experience with lifts so excuse my newbie-ness. I haven't been able to find any threads on here specificly about CMC and I have a lot of questions. My biggest concern is that I purchased a 120,000mi 7 year bumber to bumber warranty with my Taco for a pretty good deal I think. The dealership told me I can mod it still but whatever I change is specifically what is no longer covered under the warrenty. For example if I change the suspension just the suspension isn't covered and everything else is. Great! But surely a little CMC could mess that warranty up. Any thoughts? Is there any potential problems with CMC? Everyone seems to be doing it but why isn't there many concerncs with structurural problems. Could someone give a detailed explanation of the process and what places do a good job and what should I look to avoid when doing it? If anything I said or asked seemed stupid or if theres already a thread on this please let me know. Thank you! If anyone has any related pics good/or bad anythings apreciated.

There are a lot of thread on the process in the 2nd gen forum. As for warranty. It shouldn't be affected as long as the cab mount is re-boxed. But if there is ever a frame recall, you may be screwed.

I have chopped the cab mounts on my last 4 toyotas. All were new and had warrenty. Also traded 3 of the 4 in to our local dealer. An nonebody has even noticed it. My point is dont worry about it. If you need and want to cut it to run larger tires have at it. It will in no way effect the mechanical integrity of the frame or truck. The only way it would ever effect you is if you cut it and dont repaint it or weld a plate back over it. That could possibly cause rust over time but even then it would take a while. I had a fj and i cut the cab mounts on it when it was brand new to fit bigger tires. I never welded a plate back over where i cut. Only primed and repainted it. Using a rust preventive paint. An it still looked brand new after 60k.

The only reason the cab mounts stick out so far is to protect the front wheels from.being pushed back into the cab on a hard head on collison. However i have always thought if i hit something that hard straigt on i will have bigger problems then the tires comming back into the cab anyway. Or so i have been told. Good luck. Dont let it scare you.

I will go you one better. I traded my fj to my current taco. My fj was fixed up nice but needed a truck. Had 34s,lift,skid plates, ucas, rock sliders, etc etc. The owner of our local dealership ended up buying it after having it inspected twice as i was told. An never did any of them notice the frame had been cut.
Unless you go to look for it an know what a cmc is nobody will ever no it.

Offroad shop, or a welding shop should be able to do it.

255/80 will fit with no cutting at all. 285/70-17 will fit if yountrim the cab mount. Possibly even a 295-305 depending on wheel specs and the exact tire.

Its easy. I cut mine and made up some plates from 3" flat stock. Migged in. Weld slow and short to avoid setting your new truck a blaze. If you don't have a welder most any 4x4 shop can do this.

FYI, Just dont melt your cab mount bushing when welding on your BAMF replacement plates, otherwise a piece of cake.

Do it yourself. You need a grinder and a cutting wheel. Or a dremal tool. Basically anyone can cut it. Then take it to a weld shop and have them weld on a plate at some point. Doesnt have to be right away. An the fender wall trimming is just as easy. If you want you can run 35s. But they will take alot more trimming then a 33. I myself run 33s because i would want to regear with 35s and dont wanna spend that much money right now. An 33s get me everywhere i wanna go and some.

The fender wall trimming im kinda against because doesnt that open up the body to more rust? I live in PA and in the winter you see more salt on the road than snow haha. You don't think the 2.5" lift and cmc would clear 33" alone?

An alternative is to pick a suspension/wheel/tire combo that doesn't require that alteration.

So the question is what are you lacking in off road function that you are trying to correct? (I'm not asking for an answer, it's a question for yourself)

And could the correction be made with less extreme component choices (usually wheel/tire).

    Just a thought.
