Only had the unit in the Tacoma reboot once in the two month I've been driving it but my Venza would do this all the time and I even had that unit replaced once and it would still do it. My Venza is also notorious for losing it's signal for navigation which would make it look like I was driving miles away from where I actually was. I often had to re-calibrate it to fix it. Tacoma has done this once but it only lasted for a couple minutes before it fixed itself. I'm thinking this is all Software related since I have had two different Toyota vehicles with two totally different units have the same issues.

Were these issues with the standard sound system or JBL, or both?

I've got the JBL system. Ironically, my Venza that shares the same complaints as on this thread is JBL as well.

Had my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport for 32 days. It happened once about week 2 and I assumed it was a fluke, then today it stared doing a lot. In a two mile stretch it happens at least 12 times. Called the dealer and they said their lead tech would call me...that was 6 hours ago.

I have 2016 with a JBL radio / navigation. Lately, shortly after I start the Tacoma all controls on the face of the radio become frozen and the only way I have learned to correct this is by putting the truck in park and turning it off and restarting it. Once I do that I don't have issues. I'm guessing I should take it to the dealer. Does anyone else of any alternative suggestions?

Are your entune updates up to date. I've never had any of the issues you are stating. The only odd behavior has been that the screen flashes sometimes while using Bluetooth audio

I'm not sure my Entune is up to date. I've had my truck since March, but I've never used bluetooth or entune.

You should download the entune app and register your truck. There will be at least one update. The first time you connect you'll need to connect your phone to the USB port. After it updates you can use the entune app via Bluetooth

Man I guess I'm lucky so far with my radio. Problem free and sounds great. Have seen plenty of complaints and issues about it though from others. :fingerscrossed:

A video of the unit acting up will help immensely. I understand that these things are aggravating to everyone, but if a technician doesn't know what he is suppose to be looking for ie..noises, non-function, abnormal function all we can do is shrug. Some of the SA aren't these brightest even though they think they know everything, except what questions to ask.

My non-JBL radio was replaced due to ongoing reboots. No problems with the replacement radio

Damnit....Mine just started this this morning....rebooted 6 times on my 20 minute drive to work....it was raining, since it seems like that matters, and and I had my phone hooked up with bluetooth, and my ipod plugged in the aux usb like I always do.

were they actually able to reproduce the problem, or did they just take your word for it?

It was happening with them while in the work bay, just turning it on and off, it would occasionally stay off

my radio shuts off and reboots every time I drive in the rain.

I've only driven in the rain 3 times in this truck, and each time the radio has rebooted 2-5 times per drive.

I connected my phone with a USB cable and turned on Bluetooth. Then a message on the head unit displayed and said there was an update. The head unit prompted me from there. My head unit is a 2016 JBL has been freezing, I have to put my truck in park and turn it off, then on to get it to work. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

This happens to my truck also.. only when it's raining. Third time it happened was today. Need to bring it in. How do I convince the dealership it's happening if it's not raining?

So I took my truck into the dealer today.. They said they have seen other trucks with these symptoms. There is a firmware update that is supposed to fix the problem (toyota bulletin). I guess i'll see the next time it rains. Fingers crossed....
