New truck finally arrives. Let the dealer detail or do it yourself?

Personally, diy. They aren't making the payments and they couldn't give to shits about your investment.

They don't really "detail" it in my experience. The truck is brand new and should need very little more than a slight interior wipe down, maybe a spot vacuum and a quick wash/dry.

I've never seen them spend more than an hour pulling the plastic and crap off, then washing up the truck for delivery. It's not like they go in and spend three hours polishing and waxing.

Let them do their thing, take delivery and then get a nice coat of wax on it a month or two down the road. It's a truck, enjoy it. You'll probably end up with dings on the side of the bed or tailgate, and pin-striping if you off road it at all.

That right there is funny! I don't care who you are............

You'll get the quality of new car prep that the lowest paid guy in the place can get away with. It will still look great, because it's new.

It's much more important to check your fluid levels and tire pressures when you get it home. 'Cause that's where you may find some issues that matter.

Then detail to your hearts content. I always start by waxing the door jambs and under hood stuff.

They don't call them "dealer-installed swirls" for nothing. Either DIY or find a good detailer.

Wait but some guy named Hammer said there's no need to check the fluids as the Transmission fluid level is full from the factory and shouldn't matter.

My dad ran a ford dealership for 30 years. I promise you they aren't doing a full detail on brand new cars. They're pulling plastic and packaging off, rinsing them, drying them and putting them in delivery bays. They just tell you you're getting a free detail to make you feel better. Oh they might add some tire shine.

if you want your trucks paint mucked all up and scratched to hell. By then all means let them go at it with their dirty towels and unknowing knowledge on how to properly detail a car/truck
I never let a dealer touch my paint. Every vehicle I buy i drive it off the lot dirty and untouched

Up to you, OP. I ordered my truck instead of picking one off the lot. I told them when it came in to just do the PDI on it and leave the plastic on so I could detail it myself. I always decline the free wash when I get it serviced, too. Nobody has washed my truck except me. Do you really want someone working for minimum wage who doesn't give a damn about your truck to wash it?

A lot of paranoia here. Like it's a collector's edition Ferrari

I used to wash cars for a dealership. It's not so much that the guys don't know what they're doing, but in most cases they are rushed. When I detail my truck, I spend a good 4-5 hours on it. Just a wash takes about 2. Dealerships what them done in 45 minutes and ready to be delivered

I drove mine from the lot to the dirt and detailed it with rock chips and pinstripes.

I live in AZ. The water is hard and the heat is high. You ain't washing your own car here without some significant equipment and facilities. I take my truck through the tunnel wash or whatever. Sure there's probably swirl marks in the paint. I also have a numbers matching 1968 GTO that I pay detail company to do. One is a truck. One is a collector car. There's a difference

Toyota of Dallas fucked ours up. It was terrible. I no longer allow them to wash or detail the truck.

Do it yourself! My 2015 paint was gritty feeling so I ran the claybar over it and a good wax.
