We took a "friend" along with us on the 4 wheeling trip this past weekend. He's got a Jeep XJ and is starting to venture off the pavement. First signs of trouble was his ranting like a lunatic because I was "driving too fast" on the interstate.....I was 5 to 7 mph UNDER the speed limit. Then he theorized I was driving 30 mph faster than he was when I gained 3/4 of a mile on him in 2 hours..... (Equates to less than 1/2 mph) Then it was my fault when the person who knew the trails was "going too slow" once we got on the trails. I "need to tell him to speed up"..... (He was on a radio with the guy in the BACK of the line. He was waiting on them to get through certain spots before we drove off and left them) Then we didn't eat lunch at the correct time. (No clue!) Now he's threatening to not go with us next time if we don't ALL comply with his preconceived notions as to what we should all be doing.

    1. I should stay NO MORE THAN 100 yards in front of him, no matter how slow he drives. 2. I should stay in radio contact with him EVERY SECOND of a 3 hour road trip....NEVER putting the mike down. (I did turn the radio OFF after 2 hours of whining) 3. My plans to stop at every rest park are ridiculous. (Tell my wife that) I should not do that. Stopping for 5 minutes once an hour is too much. 4. I should NOT give him detailed directions in case we get separated on the interstate. I should hold his hand and be his mommy all the way to where we're going. 5. It's ALL about him. No matter how everyone else in a group of 40 or more people want to do. We should all comply with his wishes. 6. 62mph is WAY TOO FAST, but 80mph is just right....as he tailgated me once the sun came up. (He's scared of driving in the dark) 7. I never told him a "3 hour trip" involved 3 hours of driving....It was too long.....(although, it would have been SHORTER had we been able to AT LEAST go the speed limit.)

Go eat a Snickers Bar......(In reference to their TV commercials!)

Guess that means he's not going next time.

I'm at a stage in life where people that over complicate my life, or people who place themselves far above everyone else around me do NOT have permission to do so. I don't expect anyone else to conform to MY every wish and want, and I don't expect to do so for anyone else at their every whim.

    Rant over.

Not to go deal with the OTHER bitchy person in my life....my boss.

    OMG
In no way would he go again. I would have left him within 10 min.
A group ride needs stability. I'm sure that it affected everyone.
Kick the SOB to the curb. Definately not group ride material.

Once upon a time, I would have just done whatever it took to keep this guy from whining. Somewhere along the way, I realized kids eventually grow up, but some adults NEVER do. Now I just do what I want, and if he isn't happy with that, he needs to find his own group and try to dominate them. Ain't workin' on me.....

Once we got to the trails, this guy refused to meet anyone else. Him and his rider stayed away from everyone else, and I heard more than one "What's wrong with them" from the rest of my friends....He's rude, anti-social, and does not think ANYONE else's ideas or opinions matter. I try to help him out because we're old friends, but, at some point, "being a friend" involves NOT being an enabler. He's EITHER going to have to learn to be one of the group, or else, go somewhere else and be by himself.

What's particularly strange is the fact this guy has the most screwed up life of anyone I know, but EVERYONE else is wrong and he's ALWAYS right.....And he's the outsider trying to fit in with an already established group.....In the same situation, I'd expect to be the one who would be trying to conform a little rather than expecting everyone else to conform to HIS wishes.

Note; I used to own several Jeeps....Nothing seriously wrong with 'em, I just like to tease Heep owners!

I have my wife trained. (In this one regard anyway) She takes after me and likes to make wise ass comments to Jeep owners. She even says "Cheep Jerokee" when talking about a couple XJ's that friends own.

Down side to that, she wants a 4wd of her own and is now narrowed that down to one of TWO possibles.....An FJ 'Cruiser, OR a Range Rover.....

On second thought, I better get her on the Jeep bandwagon! (Or a 4Runner.....or give her the Tacoma and I'll get the FJ!)

A really good friend who my wife admires a great deal has an AWESOME FJ. She want's one like Tony's....There goes the budget.

You must have seen signs he was like this before this ride.
When he said he was going I would have talked to him about the rules and COD for the ride.
So not to beat a dead horse. Why did u invite him anyway? Is this the same guy you told us about before?

He's been like this his entire life. I'm just getting less and less tolerant of his behavior as I get older.

I didn't really "ask him", just let him know we were going, and he asked if he could go along. I didn't think he would be astonished when we all did what we normally do....The first time he went with us, he wasn't too bad....This time might have been the LAST.

His behavior reminds me of a neighborhood bully who wants all the other kids to do whatever he want's and then go hang out in the tree house and have a secret club with no girls allowed....Seriously.....
(He cannot stand it when my wife goes with me) He's 57 years old and still acts like he's 12. The telling tale is, he seriously believes we're all wrong about everything we do, and he's got all the answers.

He lives alone now, even his own daughter refuses to talk to him. The last woman he dated lasted about 2 months, then moved away from town after she found out he was a possessive manipulative stalker. He carries a gun and routinely get's it out and waves it around so other people will know he's a self proclaimed bad ass.

You know what? The more I think about it, the more I question why I have anything to do with him.

That is sad however, allowing him to go again with your group will not look good for you either.
Not liking your wife to go is a absolute deal breaker.
    I'll shut up now......
