This is not true. You will need them, I did not do one and when I lifted my wife's 04 to put 5100 and AAL on it, They were tighter then a guitar string on that side. I went on a small trail by my house same thing. I just bought a full set from SLEE and it fix it. I had to do the same thing to our 99 when I put Dakar packs but that was a OME shock with same travel. On the 99 I just did the rear but her brake pedal feels muck better than mine and we have the same brakes. I would suggest getting the full brake line kit.

Jack up the frame by the tire on the brake line side till the tire comes off the ground you will see it will be supported by the brake line. Be careful when you get close to lifting the tire to not pull the line to tight. This is what will happen if you are off-roading and lift that tire in the air but it will happen with more force and brake the line. Plus if the other side is compressed it will be worse.

I got the 2" OME w/ Dakar Leaf springs. I didn't do the install due to lack of time. I cannot remember what it looked like before the lift, but here's the hanger that's on mine:

My stock line is long enough to droop tire below fender without running a shock at all on 2.5" lift leafs.

You wont need the hanger with an AAL. You will if you by a Dakar Pack. I put a 220lb AAL on my 99 with Dakar and had to get rid of hanger and go with a magnaflow exhaust that exits over the leaf spring. The 04 still has stock hanger with AAL no problem even with hanging that side in the air.

Maybe 96 is diferant not sure. I have done a 99, 02, and 04 this year and they all needed it. The 99 and 02 have toytec AAL and 5100. Did you get 5100 that were made for a lift or stock? That could be it as well.

Thanks for the info to clear that up. I wasn't sure. Just hate to see someone go through the work, and one little part keeps the project incomplete.

Never had 5100s. Ive ran 10" skyjackers and 5125s. Running a relocated setup now and still using stock line. I just bent the top bracket down some.

I didn't want to bend the top bracket, and it was definitely supported by the line on my 2000. I think my guidance to OP is that a $34 brake line on a $850 lift is cheap peace of mind.

I have 5100's in the back of my 04 DC Tacoma w/ a 1.5" AAL and have never had a problem with stock rear brake lines.

That's what I was thinking... For $34 it's not worth worrying I'm gonna lose my brakes every time I go down the road

I ordered them from Allprooffroad.com. You might be able to find better deals than them, but if you go to there site it will tell you the length of them.

Did you get the kit installed? One thing I found I needed was pair of leaf spring main eye bolts. BP blaster didn't work and it was too close to the gas tank to torch.

Yes I actually just got it installed! I didn't end up needing eye bolts on mine, however there was a TON of corrosion elsewhere to deal with
