So I am finally getting this project truck 5lug to 6lug conversion started. I got the front diff and OEM suspension set up on the frame but when installing the axles I can't get them to set all the way in to the front diff. They are sticking out about an inch. Any tips or tricks to get them in?IMG_20160812_194040.jpg IMG_20160812_194040.jpg IMG_20160812_194047.jpg IMG_20160812_194101.jpg

Have you tried a hammer? A good deadblow hammer or rubber mallet should get them in.

One axle at a time, turn the output shaft from the front diff slowly clockwise 10 degrees then back to 12 O'clock then counter clockwise 10 degrees while a second person pushes inward presure on the CV with the pry bar and LIGHTY taps on the cv ear flanges inward towards the diff.
12 o'clock is the position of the inboard CV C-clip w/ the gap in the clip facing downwards, and use a grease of your choosing to help keep that C-clip in place.

I've always put the cv axles back in without the knuckle reattached to the outer splines as well. Not sure if that would make any difference though. Also the struts would be out. I guess the order would be, assuming everything is disassembled, the inner splines seated into the front axle, then the knuckle, and then the struts. At least if I remember right. Not sure what the fsm states on order.

Disconnect the LCA, swing it down out of the way. Use the weight of the knuckle and brake to push the axle in. Besure to guide the axle at the front diff. Have a buddy pull out then drive it home. They usually pop right in.

Have you seen the little ring at the end of the spline that goes into the differential?
Well that has to be force inside. So whatever way you feel comfortable ramming the axle in I guess. I just spun the axle until the splines lined up then with my arm pushed it as hard and fast as possible. Popped in.
