Is there supposed to be a third deck rail in the truck bed, at the front of the bed?

No. But you can get one from a 2nd gen and it will bolt right in. That's what I did.

No, this is another area the Toyota cheaped out..... 2nd Gen's had 'em... just another place where Toyota wanted to make a profit.

Yes there's a rail you can purchase online - don't forget the end caps ( X2). I think I paid ~$50 for mine with the caps and picked it up at one of my local Toyo dealers that sells parts online.

    Edit:

    Part numbers:
PT278-35100-BH TRUCK BED ACCY - HEADER RAIL

66134-04010 FRONT TRACK END CAP (need 2)

    total right around $50

The pic looks like you have a Softopper on your truck. You like it? I just put one on my truck. So far it's good. We'll see if it passes the test of time. I plan to have it on the truck only when I need it.

I'm liking it so far. Love the versatility and function. Had to load a 1000lb bag of sand the other day, and it was nice to just fold it down. I currently have the sides rolled up and it's doing well. Only grip is the rear screen tore a bit from rolling it up. Softtopper is sending a replacement free of charge though. They recommended removing the screen in the future.

I asked my local dealer about the head board rail a while back and he told me it was not available for purchase, and that it was only available as a stock order from the factory or I had to buy a whole bed assembly. Immediately I went to google to see if there were any for sale online because I didn't believe him, only to find that I couldn't locate one myself. Then I found that the Tundra bed rail system was for sale online all day long, so I figured I would buy that from the dealer and mod it however I thought necessary to make it fit my truck. @bobrown14 is right on the money with that P/N, that is the same one that I recieved, PT278-35100-BH bolts right up.

List price is $45.57, I got it for $32.33 after tax.

    Question for your gear/Taco heads...

Yes this is a 3rd Gen post (which I own), I'm new to the truck and Taco game.

For those previous gen owners ....
My local savage yard has a 1995 and 2000 Taco in the yard, i have to go hunting to get the answers and it's 35 min away. Before I go and order this rail new....do either the '95 or '00 have rails, and if so, the same one posted in this thread??

Thanks for any help you can lend.

No, the first generation trucks did not have the deck rail system.

I wish I could help you out on that one, I know a parts dealer though and I've been buying everything at cost from him. I'm starting to run out of OE stuff to buy.

My local dealership parts guy said it would be $51 for the rail and $13 for each cap. Looks like I'll be ordering online.

I have found that partznet (front for an east coat Toyota dealer) has the best list prices and most reasonable shipping costs.

Those plastic end caps are the biggest rip off, and I didn't buy them because the pricing is so damn ridiculous.
